    tests....

ok, so after some slightly out of the normal afs, i went to talk to the doc. basically, feb i had some largish clots and march's af i flooded during the night :/
so went for a chat, not cause im worried we havent conceived yet (been ttc since end nov) but because i want to make sure all is good down there! no point waiting til i hit 12 months, and finding there was a problem that could have been fixed. so the doc has ordered a bunch of tests.... kinda over whelmed me!

on thur arvo i go in for an ultra sound, she wants to check for fibroids and "any organic pathology"

and bloods for fsh, lh, progesterone, oestrogen, testosterone, shbg and fai.

if anyone knows a bit about these, or has a simialar experience, id love to hear from you!!

I had the same tests and waiting for the results. I've got no idea what they are testing for, but I'm sure its to check if your O'ing (someone stop me here if I'm not right) and to check if your hormone levels are ok.

    Hope you ok hun

    thanks dd
i'm a bit up and down.....
if there is a problem, i guess it is best to know, but at the same time it is scarey thinking there may be a problem!
i hope all your results come back clear or with answers for what you have been going thru. when do you get results??

    Hey CC

I had all of those tests at the six-month mark. It does seem overwhelming but try not to be scared - it's good that your GP is being really thorough so that, as you say, you can rule things out. Information is power and there are so many things that can help in the unlikely event that there are issues.

The ultrasound will be to check out your uterus (including the thickness of your entrometrium/lining), ovaries (make sure there's no cysts, see follicles etc), fallopian tubes and all the other internal girly bits. The technician will ask you if you want to have an internal as well as an external, and while it's entirely up to you I recommend you say yes so that you get more detailed pictures. It's a bit uncomfortable but not too much worse than a pap smear. Don't be worried if they don't say anything or frown a bit while they're poking around, legally they can't tell you anything so ignore their expressions!

The blood tests are to review all hormone levels. Do you know what day in your cycle it's scheduled for? If it's CD 21 (most likely), it'll be to see if you've ovulated and all that good stuff. Sometimes if your progesterone (or other levels) are low it can result in mid-cycle spotting and so forth. They might even check your iron levels to make sure you're not anaemic.

Your GP will explain everything to you in a follow-up visit so stay away from Dr Google as much as possible!

Best of luck and hang in there, this is a positive step in your TTC journey. Will you post back and let us know how it went? xxx

PS DD - good luck for your results too hon.

buffy... thank you so much for your response! she did offer an internal, and i said yes... she said they cansee more from them, and thats the whole reason iwas going. they did check my iron, but more cause ive been on my tablets for ages so she thinks i should come off them.

and apart from the lady saying she could see 2 ovaries with eggs.... and asking me twice if i had had surgery (i havent), i didnt find anything out - but the asking of thesurgery twice freaked me a bit! (also dh sais she could have just forgotten my response)

results at the doc on tues.... will keep you posted xxx
