I suffered from endo and PCOS quite bad some years ago - and spent (wasted) a great deal of time and money in the mainstream medical system being bounced around by different GPs and 'specialists', before undergoing repeat operations (ie - endoscopy, laparoscopy), and taking a host of synthetic pharmaceuticals which only made by health plummet more. I was told it was unlikely i would ever be able to conceive naturally.
I eventually was recommended to see a Naturopath by a friend, and well the rest is history. I am now completely Endo and PCOS free - and I have conceived 2 healthy little boys without artificial intervention. My advice is basically that you do not make a GP your first port of call when TTC - as they will point you in one direction - IVF. And as countless Naturopaths will tell you, had they only come to them sooner, they may have saved them the hassle, stress and money of IVF.
I suggest you contact ANTA (Australian Natural Therapists Association) to help you locate a registered and experienced Naturopath near you who specialises in NFM (Natural Fertility Management). If you live in Sydney you may wish to visit the King of all Fertility Specialists - Francesca Naish and her team, at the Jocelyn Centre for Natural Fertility Management. They have much higher success rates than IVF and many of her successful clients have used IVF with no success previously. Their program is rigorous (and must be undertaken by both prospective parents) but its worth it if you are willing to do whatever it takes.
In the meantime, I definitely recommend her book - The Natural Way to Better Babies; Preconceptual Healthcare for Prospective Parents. You can actually order a conception pack from her website. There is alot more to a healthy conception than quitting smoking and increasing your vege intake (although these things are vital!). Removing common barriers such as accumulated toxins (heavy metals, pesticides, additives etc) balancing hormones, balancing the acid-alkaline ratio to obtain optimum Ph levels, eliminating candida (yeast) and addressing underlying vitamin and mineral deficiencies is also vital for healthy conception. And a Naturopath is the perfect place to start to address these issues.
Most of the surgery and drugs I took were completely unecessary, and had I known what i now know - I would have gone about things very differently from the start.
Best of luck on your journey TTC - plenty of support here!
