TTC & Gender Swaying #5

I dont know if anyone is still posting on here?

I would like to find out theories on TTC girl that are NOT the Shettles Method. I'm not a fan of the Shettles Method since your best chance of conceiving is on O day and the 2-3 day cut-off freaks me out. I think the theory is that women are naturally more alkaline on O day, and more acid 2-3 days prior. But I would think that you could definately sway that with foods, supplements, etc. I have started taking a calcium and magnesium supplement and drinking lots of milk. Any other ideas? Anyone heard about cranberry tablets?

I am also thinking that BDing 12-24 hours before ovulation, with shallow penetration and no orgasm might assist female sperm? It still takes the egg about 12 hours to meet up with the sperm and in an acidic environment, there might be more female sperm left than male?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Tanya, yeah I have heard of it. I think it said you have to hold off BDing for 7 days and BD once 12 hours after O. That sounds too risky to me, I get the feeling that the more BDing, the more chances of a baby!

I am not really able to help you in the girls department. I was aiming for a boy, but i have girls and i believe it has alot to do with your acid levels.

For my now pregnancy ( i am 12 weeks) I alkalined my system (aiming for a boy).. There is a few links on these threads that will help you aim towards a girl. Have a read through those and even test your DH to make sure he is not too alkaline.

Please let us know how you go i would love to hear your experiences :)

Ooh last min thought- Check with Kellxx she has just BFP a girl and did lots of things to help her. xx

Been reading a bit about it, interestingly, things like wine and coffee are supposed to be forbidden on the girl diet but from my extensive googling, it shows that they are highly acidic foods (which is good bc I'm a little bit partial!). So many mixed messages with the different methods. I am taking calcium and magnesium and drinking milk, just going to BD as much as we can and hope for the best I think.

Hey big news! Im finally CD1. yay. Great to know whats going on finally. Only problem nows is that DH is gone as of CD11. Not a good thing when you are aiming for a boy!!!!! But we will still go for it before he leaves. Hopefully the supplements and alkalinising will do the trick??? And maybe the girly ones wont get through and the boy ones manage to live a bit longer.... who knows.

Miklaoz and AJ, Hope you are happy and healthy and getting gorgeous round bellies.

Jodsan. I think lots and lots of BDing favours a girl, and doing it a bit sparingly favours a boy, so get busy and GL!!!

Welcome Jodsan. GL with your TTC journey. I hope your stay is short and that you get the little girl you want. I am also TTC a girl and I am taking supplements and also a 2 day cut-off. I know exactly what you mean about it limiting your chance of pg, I am on cycle 3 and getting a bit impatient with the whole thing!

Myson, Im so pleased that you finally got AF, though not nearly so pleased as I would have been had you got a BFP. Its good when you get a fresh start. I actually prefer this part of the cycle because the TWW is a killer. As for belly buddies, hey that would be fantastic. Hopefully this is our month. The funny thing is that if I got pg this month, my due date would be 5 december and that is just a few days after my DS birthday, so there would be a good chance of them sharing their birthdays!

myson I'm so happy that you finally have AF after such a long wait and all the uncertainy, hopefully this is your month.

Josan I also was trying for a girl, I did the 2 day cut off, but my body had other plans the month I got pg and only got 1 day cut off. I was loosly doing the diet, I was taking the calcium/magnesium tablets and DH was taking cranberry tablets to make his sperm more acidic.

mikloaz yay for making it to 12 weeks, how's the m/s coming?

As for me my m/s has been really bad, and I've had really bad skin breakouts on my face, it's shocking, I had my 8 week appointment last week and all is going well.

I noticed Kellxx is pg with a girl and I have had a look at her chart. My question is: once you get the positive OPK, you usually ovulate witin 24 hours? So trying for a girl you would need to have BD the day of the positive OPK or two days before it? Does that make sense?

From reading about trying for a girl using the shettles method i gathered you need to have a cut off of 2 days prior to ovulation, not 2 days prior to a positive OPK? (because that would mean you still haven't ovulated and the little :sperm: won't live that long). ??

I BD 5 days prior to a positive OPK this cycle so I'm gathering my chances are basically nil this month. Unless the little girlies can live that long I don't know..

Sym.. the book i have says to start with a cut off 5 days before O. Its hard to know when you will O after getting a + OPK, so i just went off the + being O.. but also how long your LH surge has been around prior to testing. If you dont fall pregnant that month then next month you step down a day to 4 days before O, then 3, then 2. Reason i started at 2 days before O was prior to me getting my Rubella Booster i had tried the 5, 4 & 3 days before O. I was really cutting it fine though as we DTD in the evening on CD 12 and i actually got EW and a +OPK in the morning of CD 14.. so technically it was less than 48 hours between cut off and +. If i was to do it over (if i didnt get a girl this time), id honestly be aiming at more like 3 days rather than the 2 as you really dont know what time of day you will get that + OPK.
You still definately have a chance as female sperm live up to 5 days, male sperm up to 3 days.

Thanks Kellxx.. I hope I'm still in for a chance but like you said if it doesn't happen this month I know for next month to cut off at 4 days before O. Did you take any of the supplements or change your diet? I must say that I did a vinegar/water douche after BD (TMI i know) but I heard it's supposed to freeze the male sperm tails - strange things I find myself doing. :lol:

It's nice to hear that this method has worked for someone, my sister reckons I will know if I'm pg with a girl cos I will get morning sickness which I never got with both my boys. Not looking forward to that. :)

Nah i didnt do any diets or suppliments or douches etc. Just focused on the timing and sperm count.

Oh dont worry too much.. i havent had any morning sickness with either DS or this one, so i think that really depends on the person.
But yeh this method worked for my sister also.. its her book i got it from. She had 2 boys, used this method (no diets or anything) and her 3rd was a girl.

I'm currently CD8, I should O on CD15. I'm very nervous about it but DH and I have decided to try a 3 day cut-off, so AM on CD12 will be it, then it shouldn't matter what time I O on CD15.

Does anybody know how long it takes for conception after O? Reason is, I am still considering trying the O+12 method on top. I figure that if there are sperm alive from three days out, they should get to the egg within 12 hours of O. If for some reason they fail, then 12 hours after we would still be in with a shot this month?

Sym - I definately think you are still in with a chance, I have heard of people getting pregnant from BD 7 days before O. Good luck, sending you lots of :bluedust:

I am now over my MS , sooo glad too. (13weeks)
I had my NT scan last week. All is good and i could see my little one wriggling round in my belly stretching and waving arms about. I did not think they moved that much in the early days. Now i cannot wait to feel movement. :)

I am hoping someone will join us 3 on the baby band wagon soon... :)

Quck question for anyone who can help..

I have a pain in the left side of my butt, maybe even closer to my lower hip area. It is like a cramp and comes and goes. is this Sciatica ??? If so how can i get rid of it , it is soo uncomfortable..

Hi Miklaoz, Glad your feeling better. Wow 13 weeks, time is flying by for you. From what I know of sciatica it is a sharp nerve pinch and can travel down the leg. But that was just my expeience, and everyone is different. Could be that or muscular loosening from changing hormones and body shape and centre of gravity shifting. ???? if its real bad check with doc, or maybe a good masssage will help? Any excuse for a massage...

Yes Mik. Still doing the 'boy stuff'. Officially CD 4 now, after a 68 day cycle! So very excitedly watching all the signs and looking forward to eggy day. Notebook mostly fixed but still need to attach HUGE aerial for better reception (they gave me a lead with the wrong end on it, so now have to wait til I go back to town AGAIN!!!!). Then wont have to sit in the middle of the paddock to get online.

Yes Naomi, do tell... whats your secret? You seem to have the perfect boy recipe. I have always been very acidic ( constant heartburn and reflux from oversupply ) but I never knew until recently how that affected gender swaying. So I got two girls without doing anything. So now Im doing everything I can to reverse my natural inclination. Hopefully it wont take too long cos I hate taking pills (natural supplements) and giving up dairy is torture for me!

I think I am officially in the 2WW. I had real trouble pinpointing O this month as I had constant pains for a week. I had a low hormonal drop on Saturday, then Sunday my Cervix was still open and soft but today it is closed and hard. So I assume I O'd either Saturday night or yesterday (which is the date I expected CD15), assuming cervix probably takes 24 hours to close again? I am going with 1dpo anyway?!? Our cut-off to TTC a girl was Friday morning, so we are probably in with a good chance - ended up with anywhere between 36-60 hours cut off. :crossfingers: Let's see if the diet and Shettles cut-off really works!

We are trying for a girl but i think I done the cut off too soon, we BD 5 days before I got a positive OPK so I don't like my chances. How's the girl diet?

I'm struggling to wait out the 2 weeks (currently at 9dpo), done a cheap internet Pg test this arvo and got the faintest of a second line so I went to the shops and grabbed a first response test which in my mind is neg... I done some reading though and apparently the internet cheapie tests at 10mlu and first response is
25mlu, so we shall see what happens in the next couple of days.

I'm trying to make a deal with myself that I won't test again until at least Wednesday.. lol

I am at cd10 today and beginning to get some pre O niggles, problem is DH is away from tomorrow night and we are hoping for a boy. So unless I miraculously O in the next day or 2 then it looks like I miss out this time round. bummer!

Anyway, its just a waiting game, as usual. waiting...waiting... waiting... its driving me nuts really. Looking forward to seeing your test results soon.

Sym - It sounds very promising. A positive is a positive! Do try to wait until Weds though, if there is a faint now then it should definately be darker two days later. :crossfingers: Yeah, the girl diet is quite good bc I really love dairy, I am happy to drink a litre of milk per day. I have not completely cut out the wine and chocolate though so I cant say I have done it strictly. I think the cut-off time is the most important, you should be in with a good chance of having a girl if you have conceived from 5 days out. I'll be thinking of you, try to keep busy for the next 36 hrs.

Myson - well they say up to 3 days with boy sperm. Cross fingers that with the alkaline diet they last really well!!

Mik, I have actually read the same thing about storage in a jar, it was on a US site. They kept it in the fridge and then warmed it up slightly before insemination by placing the jar in a cup of warm water (like a baby's bottle). Might be worth a thought Myson. I cant recall how long it lives for though.

Yeah, I had shocking leg cramps thoughout my whole pregnancy and sciatica. I took calcium and magnesium supplements and tried to drink loads of water and that probably helped a little.

My first was a big suprise, so no control over that one.
2nd was planned, but i wanted a boy, so i dtd on o day, had my legs raised and a pillow under my butt for 1/2 hour and it worked.
3rd was a suprise too, we were not supposed to start ttc #3 until the year after he was born, so he was eager to get here.

Mik, my mum swears by drinking soda water for leg cramps, it worked for me :dunno:

Guess what. I was trying to use the cut-off method for a girl, and so we DTD Day 11(PM), and I usually O on day 13, so I thought that Id have a 2 day cut-off, but according to FF I O'd on Day 12, the same day as my +OPK. The OPK was the darkest its ever been. Wayyyyy darker than the control line. Also my temps were taken under less than ideal circumstances (ie my DS deciding to wake up anytime between 6 -8am), so I dont think they are completely accurate. Im beginning to stress out a little because I was sure Id O on day 13.:doh:, not day 12. Is it even possible to O on the day of a +OKP, I thought you had at least a 24hr wait after the OPK. Now Im sooo confused.

Dh has just stopped complaining about having to wear looser boxers, if I ask him to leave a jar of the stuff in the fridge he is likely to have a coniption of monumental proportions!

Have you all heard of the Jonas method and what do you think of it? Firstly it says that we can spontaneously ovulate when the moon is in the same position as it was when we were born? Well it's got me thinking bc I had such a strange O week this month. On CD8 I got O type cramps on my right side, I was not due to O until CD15. Then I had strange cramps all week, low, etc. Then I got the hormonal drop on CD 14 but not the pains (which I always get). Thing is, I just did the Jonas calculator and it is telling me my lunar fertility is on the 9th March, the exact day I was CD8 and got the pains!?! Strange!:dunno::

But, then the second part of the Jonas method - that gender is determined by the astrological sign the moon is in. I kinda knew this and I knew that I was due to O on 16th March and that the moon would be in Cancer which is a feminine sign. So all looked good for a girl, along with my 3 day cut off. But, if I did O on the 9th, moon was in Aries, a male sign AND we BD'd twice that day!!:lol:

Or, maybe I O'd on both dates, in which case we can expect male and female twins!! :babyboy::babygirl:

Have any of you looked into the Jonas method for gender swaying? Here's the link to a good site that has the calculator: Jonas Method Conception Calculator and Baby Gender Predictor. Sounds much easier than the diet and cut off!!

Jodsan, I know that Nickers tried the Jonas method when she was swaying for a girl, but she ended up with a boy. You can read about it in previous threads, Just thought Id let you know. I know that no method is fool proof, but reading that turned me off using it. I hope that if you decide to use it that it works for you.

It all sounds a bit 'out there' Jodsan. Not sure if I would put faith in it... but who knows... there are so many mysteries in life that mankind really has no clue about! I prefer to go with methods I completely umderstand and agree with and that gives me even more faith in success. GL Jodsan.

Still awaiting eggy here. DH gone now so if it doesnt hatch soon I'll be out for this month. Using digital opk's as of yesterday... very exciting... I really like them. Its a shame they are so expensive!!!

Yeah, I agree, it's out there but I did have ovary pain on the supposed lunar ovulation day. We'll wait and see.

AF turned up for me today :(

My partner told me to stop wasting HPT's and just wait til AF was overdue, but no need to test now.

This cycle I am going to try a 3 day cut off and see if that works.
