Also, if you don't want an electric rice cooker, you can cook rice in the microwave. It comes out really well, especially when done in the proper rice bowl for the microwave.
I LOVE MY RICE COOKER!!!!
I was always freaking out that my rice was sticking, or burning, or wasn't cooked enough, etc etc.
Then i was given a rice cooker for a housewarming gift and my life changed, haha.
You just put in double water to what ever rice you put in (i tend to put an extra bit it seems to cook better) and you turn it on, and walk away!! And then you get perfect rice. No stirring or touching.
The downside for me is that when i'm cooking alot of rice, the foamy stuff comes out of the steam hole on the top, so i just put it in a large baking tray and it catches all of it, just a little extra cleaning.
I use mine ALL the time as one of my favorite meals is rice with a chicken stock cube (put in when you start cooking rice and it dissolves and gives the rice an awesome taste) and smothered in sweet chilli sauce. I usually have it for lunch.
