Also, if you don't want an electric rice cooker, you can cook rice in the microwave. It comes out really well, especially when done in the proper rice bowl for the microwave.

We have one of those and it is awesome. The rice comes out perfect - I never cook rice any other way now. They only cost about $15 from memory.

    I LOVE MY RICE COOKER!!!!
I was always freaking out that my rice was sticking, or burning, or wasn't cooked enough, etc etc.
Then i was given a rice cooker for a housewarming gift and my life changed, haha.
You just put in double water to what ever rice you put in (i tend to put an extra bit it seems to cook better) and you turn it on, and walk away!! And then you get perfect rice. No stirring or touching.

The downside for me is that when i'm cooking alot of rice, the foamy stuff comes out of the steam hole on the top, so i just put it in a large baking tray and it catches all of it, just a little extra cleaning.
I use mine ALL the time as one of my favorite meals is rice with a chicken stock cube (put in when you start cooking rice and it dissolves and gives the rice an awesome taste) and smothered in sweet chilli sauce. I usually have it for lunch.

I've got a Breville - my mum gave it to me. I love it. Use it all the time for rice dishes, especially love making risotto in it. Not sure if they all do it, but I can also use mine to steam other foods (all types of vegies and meats), which is coming in handy now that I'm making food for my 7 month old son. I just put the food in, add the water, turn it to cook and come back in the required time...done and so easy.

hehe I think the thing with rice cookers, is you DO say "why would you want one of those when you can do it in a pot?" until you get one Then life is So much easier, and the rice so much nicer, and you KNOW why

We use a vegetable steamer - just put the rice and water in a tub in the top of the steamer and it cooks rice perfectly - doubles as a steriliser too...
