Welcome PZ!! Its great that your starting to get right into things before they get harder!!! Eating well is ahuge thing for me too!! I am a snacker so i will snack all day and then it comes to meals and im not hungry!! (duh i wonder why??!!) and its meals that i try to eat well.

I have a question about excercise for anyone who may know.. so ok, i get on the bike and do a bit, take a break, do some more... is that AS effective as doing it all in one go???? Same with situps, my goal today is 50, but i will probably do that in two or three goes, like 20, then a few hours later 20 more, than 10 kind of thing. Is this worth it????? Should i try to do them all at once?????

hey all! well have been up and out for a walk and a play at the playground already today and got home for lunch - had a meeting so not really my own motivation lol

    hmmm... so to catch up...

leesa - am 170-171cm so about 5'7" and have always had quite wide hips (let alone now...), size 10-11 being my minimum pre preg size on bottom. top am not concerned about so much as still have quite a narrow waist (although still about 6-7cm to go to get back to pre preg) and shoulders and have never really carried much weight on top...

starbright - i would totally recommend a food diary then hun, cos there must be something in your environment that has changed (also pregnancy and BF actually dry out your skin considerably as well, but not that much!). also worth thinking about are things like washing products like what soap or body wash you use, what laundry powder or additives, what moisturisers and make ups, whether you wear gloves for (everything in my case) washing up, nappy bucket, cleaning etc. whether you drink enough water or too much caffeine. what products you use on bub's skin, bum or bath, whether you use wet wipes or water and a cloth... all those kinds of things. if i wasn't as strict as i am with my and bub's environment then i would probably be pretty similar to you (truly) as if i do something that aggravates my skin then they end up (within a day or two tops) cracked and bleeding and excruciatingly painful. also have you thought about flaxseed or fish oil supplements?

sammiejane - not vain, is totally about you and your self esteem (vanity would be how you look for others, not yourself). i am absolutely with you on this as this is what i want too. i want to feel gorgeous and attractive and not like a potato person

pumpkinzulu - honey, even if you just have a few ready made meals in the freezer and fridge (whether from friends, family or the supermarket) that might help you out a bit. your bub is still so young and i remember having things like single or serves two packets of soup, curry and risotto in the fridge AND freezer when bub was teeny as i didn't have the time or energy to cook. it really helped as then i could just take one out of the fridge and heat it up and bung whatever i didn't use back in the fridge. you need to eat well both for your recovery (birth is BIG on the body) and if you're BF then for the quality of milk for you little one. other things are like individual sized tins of tuna (flavoured or not) or salmon or sardines in the pantry and then you can just rip into one and have a burst of protein. cos honey, the guidelines are generally to not lose more than a kilo a week so 15 in 4 sounds dangerous for you health not to mention bub's... have you got a coffee group or friends who are mums too? or just someone who you love who can drop in once or twice a week, wash your dishes, do your vacuuming and make you a casserole or something? i aim for three meals with protein (breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner) and a snack or two if i'm hungry (usually either raw fruit, veges or nuts).

miss k - hope the nutritionist went well

belfie - well done on the cycle!

beckoes - hope your goals are going well

tellytubby - hope you're having a good day today

    everyone else - ditto!

Just subscibing for later. Weighed myself on Thursday and lost 700grams for the week. I was stoked with that. Hopefully I can get below 80kilos by the end of July (currently 81.3)

    Welcome PZ.

Leesa thats a great saying and so true what you eat in private shows in public lol. I love it.

SB I have no idea how effectice doing exercise in intervals are but it would be way better then not doing it at all. I know when I was doing WW years ago you got more bonus points for the exercise been done all at once. So if I did a 30min walk it was an extra 2 points (you could spend on food) but if you did 3 lots of 10min exercise it would only be 1point.

My exercise for yesterday was loading firewood into the trailer which involved alot of walking (from the tree it was cut from to the trailer and lifting). Today I went for a small jog but hope to go for a walk later.

    Wow this thread is buzzing!

Mildez - woo hoo that's awesome! Great exercise too. I've read the same thing about the exercise. If you do it all in one go, you get your heart rate up & keep it up, which is better for fat burning... whereas if you do it in 3 lots, you don't have quite the same result. BUT, 3 lots is still better than no lots!

Livvy - ooh can we swap shapes? tehehe. I thought my hips might get bigger from having kids but instead they're smaller and i'm just even more top heavy! Isn't it a bummer when they exacerbate our problem areas? I don't know how it would go with getting back to your original size, but i"m sure that exercising & getting fit would give you the best possible chance. The body can take a while to settle back down, so I would think you've got a good chance.

Starbright - oh now i realise where that question came from , and you can see what I said above. I also found that while I was recovering (VERY bad hips/pelvis during PG) my osteo said I was better doing things in small lots and with good technique rather than doing one big session but fatiguing and doing it poorly... so I guess I just gave a reason to do it in little goes after all! I often do 2 lots of 30 mins nowadays. But just depends on the kids & what I can fit in.

PZ - welcome. I know the big boob feeling, 'orrible ain't it. the bike sounds like a great idea. And two bras on for walking. I have dropped 10cm off my boobs, and it feels soooo much better. Like you know... "hey, I'm back here. Yup, there's a person behind the boobs!" My other suggestion would be food diary - that way you'll keep yourself honest about eating properly. And plan your meals if you can. Makes it much easier if you've pre-decided what to eat.

SJ - can you dig out the Xtrainer & find s'where to put it? I imagine it would really help with reaching your goals. Plus I reckon moving all that junk would burn some cals too hehe. GL with your weigh-in on Sun. Oh and there's been some articles around recently showing that sleep deprivation impacts metabolism & eating patterns for sure. It is harder to do, but can be done - if that helps.

Leesa - rrarrrgh hottie! And I ended up doing 60 mins on the bike, I was really proud of myself. And I am gonna put a new battery in my HRM. When I've cycled this week I've been checking my HR a few times, thanks to you.

AFM, well I'm wearing my new skinny HAWT jeans all week cos I can't believe how good they look tehehe. I bought 2 smaller bras, but I'm still getting a bit of over-boob action depending on where I am feed-wise... grrr. So that's incentive to try lose some more, cos they're SO close to fitting properly. And they're from target... 12E... there was no bigger cup size . I stuffed up yeseterday & didn't eat properly in the arvo before Zumba (I have dinner after)... then I was knackered! Got through the class ok, but driving home... omg so tired. So that's a lesson for me - fuel up properly Belfie! I got my 59.8 on Sat, but promptly weighed in the 60's for the next 3 days so annoying, but finally I'm back in the 50's again. I don't think I'm up for a big loss tomorrow, but we'll see. I do weigh everyday. I have a food malabsorption issue and whenever it flares up I retain a lot of fluid and my weight can spike up & down by 1 or 1.5kg. Or if munchkin has a smaller feed than usual that can impact too. So I find if I weigh daily I get less discouraged if it happens to be a bad result on weigh-in day, cos I know how I'm tracking overall. Earlier in my weight loss journey I noticed that I always ate really badly for a few days after a gain and then exacerbated the gain. Now I'm finding I can stay more focussed and less discouraged - as I know it's probably just fluid. It took me a few months to really work that out on an emotional level tho.

I've also set myself a time-based weight loss goal. My loss so far has been right on 0.45kg per week (since start of march). If I continue at this rate (which seems pretty doable) I'll be 56.2 on the 10/9 (a week before DD's 1st b'day) by losing 3.6kg. So I'm pretty keen to do that. Losing that 3.6kg is my minimum goal. I think I want to be 55-56kg. I've even bitten the bullet & adjusted my sig too. Thinking that in 8 weeks I'll be done is a great incentive, as opposed to when I started and just tried to take a fairly long-term view. I will also admit that I think setting the weight loss goal in a timeframe can be a trap. I reckon in general it's better to set behavioural goals (i.e. exercise & food) and then see what loss follows. And if you don't get the losses you wanted, then you obviously have to tweak s'thing with your food or activity. Just my little soap-box thought for the day .

Hope you're all doing well. I'm off to vaccum & dance while I do it.

    well done mildez, great loss!

thank you belfie! am hoping to get to the 60s myself ...one day... - also you reminded me:
pumpkinzulu is only 1 pound (not kilo) per week while breastfeeding that is recommended as a healthy loss, i.e. 0.45kg. hope that helps hun.

well this week feels like it has been light on exercise and heavy on carbs, but in my defense i have had the most rotten head cold since monday (still feel shocking - phlegm and exhaustion). hopefully next week will be better. will curb that ache for comfort food (toast being my favourite one). have been dipping things in hummus when am desperate and that sates it ..well, mostly...

bleh. time for brain switch off in front of friends i think. night all - hope you're feeling better than i do right now.

Well i have been on and off the bike all day.. Dear DS has taken the batteries out of my bike (darn battereies!!!!) so my time counter/calorie counter isnt working, but i probably reckon i did a good twenty minutes all up, but it was in dribs and drabs while i could. (hence the question before, i suppose as everyone said, yes bulk is best, but some is better than NONE!!)

I didnt resisit the choc chip cookies though I had four. In my defense DD stole half my sandwhich so i ate less lunch !!!

And i have done 25 sit ups so far, i will do more tonight once the kids are sleeping i think!!

So i have decided ok, the excercise i was doing stable-ised my weight, so i just have to do more and i should start to loose some!!! So more bike, more situps, i can do the boxing without the wii- it was really just punching lol i can do that... I am going to see if i can get a normal old fashioned aerobics dvd or something i dont need the wii for and start doing that. And maybe i will start running around my yard lol We live out in the bush (not bush bush- but sticks lol) no good for a pram walk, but the fenced bit of the yard is an ok size to do a few laps, and i can see the kids wherever they are while i run!!!

Food is going to be my biggest thing, i live on bread and pasta... i need to do some researching and learn more about what i should be eating!!!!!!!

    MOTIVATION HERE I COME!!!!!

SJ - That was the exact reason why I wanted to lose the excess weight too hun. I don't think you're vain at all hun (if others do, then they may as well put me in the same basket!). I found it was the only reason which really motivated me to lose weight - I straight out - hated my reflection, every window I could see it in at the shops was a constant reminder to keep on track and not lose sight of my goal! I think its the best reason to lose weight too by the way!

Starbright - what has your GP / specialist said about weight loss with the medication you're taking? So far I'm thinking you'd have to cut calories (do you know how many you'd be eating daily? If so please share as it'll help me figure something out for you!) and really up the ante on the exercise to start seeing losses on the scales. How is that sounding? Best length of time to exercise in one hit is 30 + mins, and if I could be so pushy as to suggest doing 30 mins first thing in the morning, before you eat breakfast, to burn off fat, then last thing at night to help burn calories at a higher rate .

PZ - I'm glad you're with us hun. If you've read any of my posts I harp on and on about how exercise releases the 'feel good' endorphines without leaving behind any guilt factor (which naughty foods tend to do, thus making any initial feelings of pain / hurt ten times worse). So next time any bad feelings hit, take a walk with Miss Isla, or opt for a healthy snack of protein (almonds are my fave lol) as they keep you feeling fuller for longer. I'd suggest to just start with brisk walking daily and if you can get a 2nd exercise bike - do it, just to change it up a bit and help stave off any boredom when it comes to exercise.

Livvy - yup, size 10 -11 is definitely do-able hun - if you've been there before, you can be there again! If you're going for carbs, please, for me, opt for wholemeal or grainy type bread (if you're not already doing so), come on hun, regardless of having a cold whilst I'd let you off for not exercising I won't let you off for being naughty food wise (sorry, tough love is creeping out there hun! *hugs*). I hope you feel better soon!

Mildez - that is great exercise! So well done hun. You know they do all sorts of crazy stuff on the Biggest loser, rolling tyres, pushing and lifting tree stumps etc! The more 'odd' the move, the more chance of hitting the muscles we wouldn't usually have the chance too during 'normal' exercise!

Belfie - my hawtie ! I reckon if you try to beat your own 'personal bests' by using the HRM you'll really be going places...But who am I kidding - you already ARE going places hun. You've done so so well! I reckon the goals you've set are pretty good - though I reckon you can get that 55-56 by the end of August!

Beckoes - Nah, anyone can do what I've done - it's just determination and having the right motivation.

AFM - Still continuing on the loss cycle - only 100 grams, but i'll take it. I've got a 'back to back' Body Attack class followed by Body Pump tomorrow morning (I'm doing the Attack class just for fun, but am instructing the Pump class). And I've got to instruct the same back to back class (but Pump first then Attack) on Tuesday night. DH is happy that I'm instructing again, but only because it's at Fernwood FEMALE fitness lol!

Just wanna say - its great to have heaps of people in here! The more the merrier . But forgive me if I accidentally miss someone in replying to personals!
