A very un-birthday to you to Nettie, it is nice to see another Wonder-Person.

Freya when i joined the gym i had an hour long meeting with a PT & she gave me a routine based on what i wanted to achieve.
It's the exactly the same as MG except i do the circuit instead of the weights & the circuit is to help me tone up

My legs are feeling so sore from Zumba, but i really enjoyed it so i think i'll be going back to it.

    Thanks for the welcome Ladies

Ah welcome Maz - its awesome to have you in the thread

Just make sure you've got some comfortable loose, lightweight clothing, some runners, a bottle of water and a hand towel. Let the trainer take you through the rest

Nothing wrong with updating the runners....you need a good base to work from, and it doesn't take too long for all the supports to stretch out in runners these days.

I was going thru one pair of Asics Gel Kayano's every 4-6 mths when exercising daily. Once I started feeling the shins during the workout I knew I was up for another $300! (Till I found a much cheaper way of buying them, ONLINE!). Saving of $110!!!!!

leesa, where do you buy them online if you don't mind me asking? I do need a new pair as my Nike's are about 3 years old now. I bought them on clearance at the time for $50 because I wanted something to walk around in that I didn't care if they got lost/damaged/stolen when I travelled Europe . They actually feel too small now since I've had kids :/ So a new pair is in order at some stage in the near future.

    hi girls

i've just started back doing some PT in the last couple of weeks. i managed to lose about 15kg a few years ago with a PT but put it all back on...and then got PG i managed to lose the PG weight & extra but have put on a couple of kg. so the time has come! for ages i used the excuse that until DS stopped waking 1-2 hourly overnight i wasn't going to worry but...well, i'm worrying!

anyway, i've really enjoyed the sessions so far & have lost a couple of kg.

i told the PT that i have 2 initial goals - to get enough basic fitness to do a boxing class & to do a 5km fun run in december.

i had forgotten how much i love doing weights

ok, enough from me. looking forward to chatting with you guys

    welcome Sloane!

Maz, to start with, some basic shoes should be ok. I use cross trainers as that covers all the stuff I do. Most shoe places will tell you a general crosstrainer show will be good for gym work.

If you have feet issues then I'd recommend going somewhere to get your shoes fitted. Eluned - I get mine fitted to make sure I'm wearing the best shoes possible to support my hip and back. I go somewhere called Active Feet (for those in Vic). I prefer them to Athletes Foot because they actually get you on a treadmill doing the same activities you intend/do do on the treadmill to see what your feet do. Then they recomend shoes in your price range, and get you to put them on and do the same activity again.

Like Leesa, I get about 6 months out of my shoes. I pay about $300 as well

    Woo hoo Maz welcome
It is a bit daunting at first i will admit i was scared as when i first started. I dont go to a gym, i go to a personal trainer 3 times a week and have one day in between were i do my own thing, usually a walk or aqua fit class. I started off with just 2 sessions a week but found it wasnt enough as i want to lose it quickly for the wedding.

I have a question for you girls, the last two weeks since i have upped my exercise routine i have been really tired, wondering if any of you take vitamins, was thinking maybe i need a boost of some kind. I have been working more too but i dont want to lose the momentem by getting run down.

For gym shoes I cannot go past my Asics Gel Kayano's. But what suits me will not suit everyone .

Maz - I would recommend going to a shop like Athletes Foot and get fitted properly. *Uh oh, sneaky Leesa has taken over typing..... *. Then memorise the brand, style and size of runner, then search for it online and you should find it cheaper. Feet are really specific, and shoes are too. I love the look of Nikes, but they don't do me any justice and leave me with sore shins. However you may find the best runner for you is a Nike!

Eluned - it is triple w dot olympus sports dot com dot au But they don't stock Nikes sorry. Asics, Reebox, Brooks and Adidas they do stock however.

Abb, I'd suggest looking at the types of foods you're eating. Chat to your trainer about it or see a nutritionist. Are you eating low GI foods? I do take supps but only Vit D and that is because I am naturally low in it and was having side effects. My GP has me on the supps.

Thanks leesa, I'm not brand loyal (yet) and nike's were the ones that I just happened to pick at the time as they were on sale. I think I will get fitted and check online.

Well I walked to and from playgroup today. Not much jogging until the way back when I thought I will just see if I can jog for one whole song on my iPod. I managed to do it but the song was only 2 min 31secs long lol...it's a start.

Well hello again to everyone who has joined I can't keep up LOL!

MG: I am in Pt Cook, I would love a meet up in the middle!

Dragoncookie: I had this feeling it was you when I saw you with whoever was showing you around. I will be at Attack at on Sunday. If you do start taking Wednesday's off, let me know, I would love a Combat buddy or of course if you just want to catch up for coffee I would like that too!

Eluned and Maz: I found good sneakers invaluable! Mine were about $200 mark and are an Asics gel for cross training. At Athletes foot they did the walk on maching thing for pressure point testing and I also purchased and insert for whatever my foot is doing wrong Lol!

Welcome again everyone..hope I can keep up!!

Wow, a lot happens in this thread in one day!

Another Asics Gel fan here. I have a pair of Gel-710XTR. They're a "men's" cross trainer. I have really fat feet with narrow heal and a morton's neuroma to top it all off so very difficult to find something that fits as well as being comfortable.
