Mmm yum! Thanks so much for those dessert ideas!

That's interesting about the sugar cravings being the candida calling out to be fed! Haven't heard that before!

Off to make some sugar-free lunch! xo

I walked past 3 lolly shops and a spanish donut van on my way in to work - I ignored them all. I feel very strong!

It's empowering isn't it Nai. I feel so much better when I'm not a slave to an addiction.

My sugar consumption gets an additional feed with my alcohol consumption so I have to factor that in too and really cut down on what I drink!

Day 2 and I already feel more energetic! Last night was tough, I would normally graze on sweet things (previously justified in my head as I'm BFing) but I had fruit and yoghurt instead.

    Woohoo gooooooo us!!!!

So how's everyone gone today? I'm still sugar free, although my sugarless bread pudding last night just didn't fill the space. I guess I will get used to it!

I have now gone 5 days sugar free. There's been a few times when I could have smacked someone for a chocolate, including a couple of seriously distressing things which would normally have me scoffing down sweet comfort food. But havent had any. I'm even having coffee without sugar. I think the Chromium has helped too.

I'm still waiting for the time I can have something sweet as my reward for not having sugar bloody sugar gremlins.

I stupidly thought I could have a lime soft drink today, and so began the cascade of sugar binging The cravings returned immediately as did the memory of where i put the chocolate, and so now I'm sitting here feeling tired, bloated and lethargic

Tomorrow is another day, but I'll have a lesson under my belt...

I have been sugar free since the 24th June. I went cold turkey, it was the only way to do it for me

We went on holidays that day, and we had to pre-cook and take all the food with us, so I used it as the perfect opportunity to not take anything sweet away (poor kids!), and as I couldn't go and buy anything, I thought it would be a great way of forcing me to do it, as I don't trust my will-power!

I was pretty good the week we were on holiday. I was terribly sick with a bad chest infection, so 1 day when we were on a day trip I bought some drinking chocolate so I could have a hot drink that wasn't coffee (and then saw that the and ingredient was cane sugar!), and had pancakes 2 of the mornings with a tiny bit of jam, but that was the only sugar.

Since being home I haven't had anything except for a few pieces of dried mango.

So i'm almost 28 days in, and so proud of myself. I also would self medicate with food in a big way, and my weight was getting out of control, and I've ended up on cholesterol medication (it was high due to genetic reasons before I put on weight), but after reading Sweet Poison I knew this was the only way.

I did it last year for 3 months before falling off the bandwagon. I lost quite a few kg, and 30cm off my waist with doing no exercise (I know as my arm was in a cast and I went of the gym weigh ins). Anyway, I got DH to start in around March of this year, and he has lost 7.5kg also with no change to exercise.

I have lost 3.5kg in 4 weeks, but again have been sick twice in that time, so need for it to settle down before I really can tell.

The good part is that I have got part the desperate itchy craving stage, so I can ignore the ice-cream in the freezer that's for the kids, or go into the bakery for bread and not buy anything, and I don't feel like it was hard at all.

I also know myself, and feel like I can't let myself slip a little, or I will go straight back into it. I just wonder how long I will have to do it before I can trust myself. At least 6 months I think based on going off the rails after 3 months last time. Anyone have any experience with this?

In terms of what I'm cutting it, it is primarily fructose (except for whole fruit), so no honey or agave etc. I highly recommend the book Sweet Poison, and there is a website with forums also about getting through the cravings, different recipes etc.

He is inspiring me to give it a go too. Its not so hard when I'm already planning his foods.

What about pasta? Is there any that are better? I would assume pasta would be pretty high.

Wholemeal pasta is a lot better than the ordinary wheat based pasta!

Ok. I have started back on sugar and grain free eating again today Like Yael I have discovered I cannot have even a little sweet stuff (dried fruit, 85% dark chocolate etc) because this just leads me back to regular chocolate and eventually bread, pasta, sugar

I am trying to achieve a paleo style diet on the basis that processed carbs are basically broken down into sugar molecules in my blood stream anyway. I have read two Paleo books so far and there is some conflicting information about whether things like coffee, red wine, dairy etc are allowed. At this point I'm going to have occasional dairy and very occasional red wine. Would not give up my morning coffee for the world though so that is definitely staying

SeppyM - I'm pretty sure wholemeal pasta is still wheat based, just like other wholemeal products like bread etc.
