I made my own baked beans today. I used a teaspoon of pure maple syrup instead of sugar. Also homemade hummus. I though hummus would be a good snack option to dip with veggies.

    Mmm custard.... Must.be.strong!

L&b, not too badly. I had a glass of bubbles, half a mini tart, half a mini eclair, a choc strawberry and a scone. I ate the salad sandwiches first so that I didn't eat too much from the deserts. That was my breakfast and lunch and for dinner I had eggs so I did pretty well for me! Normally I eat so much sugar I get the sweats at the high tea!

I caved and made custard. I used honey and maple syrup instead of sugar. It actually tasted better - not too sweet. But I've also had a headache since.

L&B a headache is a good sign yes? I would love to start having negative side effects from eating sugar. It would be a dream come true

lilima did you resist the M&Ms? I love hommus. Could live on the stuff!

Nai - on your effort at High Tea.

I have been going pretty well so far. I did have a couple of those date and coconut rolls that you can get in the snack containers in the fruit and veg at Woollies last night. They are fresh dates and coconut pureed together so there was some fruit sugar there But otherwise I have avoided sugar, bread and other carbs/processed food. It's only day two for me but I am feeling really motivated and want to get the energy that I experienced in May back again.

whoohoo!! how did you only eat 4? I have no self control, once I start I'll eat half the packet!! I would be proud of that.
I cut sugar out of tea and coffee a few years ago and it was weird at first but now if I accidentally get sugar in my drink (communal open plan office at work) it's so gross. Your taste buds do definitely change.

    I suck. Couldn't do it
L and B your awesome. Its so much harder then i remembered.
The kids have suffered. Its amazing just how much sugar is in our diet without thinking about it.
Really gonna have to do some work to change it.
Everybody gives the kids so much candy and i feel like the big bad wolf when i take it off them- and then what? Do i put it away or throw it away.
Im glad this thread was started

I just weighed myself and I have lost 3.5kg with 30 days sugar free.

I'm pretty much over the cravings & can resist small levels of temptation (i.e. getting bread from bakery, not buying sweets in the shops), but I know i couldn't if they were in the house.

With regards to kids, we let them have 1 treat a week on our sabbath (normally a cake or something in the morning), and some ice cream after the meal. They don't get treats or desert any other time. I wouldn't take treats off them as they will resent it, but when they are older I do plan on telling them how bad it is for their body. That it is ok as a sometimes food, but really it is poison for their body and then let them make the decision.

awesome Yael! 30 days is great. You must feel amazing.

I had a small piece of cake today was in a social situation and decided to have just one. I didn't really enjoy it though, it was a bit sickly. I think it'll be easier to say no next time i'm in that situation. Back to no sugar tomorrow!

I have lost 1 kg since quitting sugar. I am also eating less in general.

I don't crave it any more.

Feeling much better. Now just got to find the time in the day to exercise more.

I fell off the wagon on DS1's birthday. It was a tough day, so I forgive myself. I haven't had refined sugar since but have added honey to things like porridge. I haven't lost any weight, but that may be because I have been eating chip type things, which I normally don't have. I feel like I'm sabotaging myself

I have got used to coffee without sugar though.

L&B I don't think anyone can criticise you for that! Hugs.

Just wanted to say (and I think you have a TMX?) I make custard with no sugar (or sweetener - just vanilla - which does technically have sugar - but you could use a vanilla bean!) and stir through some pureed apple. Also, mine is done with rice milk, so it's naturally a bit sweeter too.

I have fallen well and truly off the bandwagon. Must get back on. Sugar is scarily addictive!

I'm not sugar free anymore, but I hardly have it as when I do all the cravings return! I feel better for it, and know that I can go a few days without it as well as control the urges if I do

Just thought I'd pop in for a sec. You guys are doing great! It's not an easy thing to give up sugar, especially the amount in processed foods but the headaches are a great reminder of the addictive qualities of sugar.
Btw, I make custard with banana and cinnamon and vanilla bean paste Yummo!!
