the only other advice i can give that isn't already here is get a hold of a book called French Women Don't Get Fat. Chocolate management is mentioned alot. Basically: don't eat crap quality stuff. The chemical you are craving is watered down in poor quality stuff... go for a good dark chocolate and it won't do as much damage.

    mmmmm quality chocolate !!!
bath .. ive seen that book and there is also one about japanese women not getting fat !! so im might just have to add them to my book shelf !!

ive been thinkinng about getting a nutritionist , to help me out , my mum went and saw one , she was kinda big and now she is smaller than me ... she was told to cut out bread , refined sugars and tea and coffee ..... and got given a menu off foods to pick and choose from .... not a "diet" so i guess its worth a go .... sigh .. if only i had private health i could claim a $80 trip to see one

This is a great thread. After I had my laparoscopy for endo, I lost 10kg (went from 60 to 50…I’m 5 ft 2) because my body couldn’t handle any crap food at all. My diet was very bland after the lap. Since then, my body has balanced itself out and I put back on 5kg which I feel normal for me although I’d like to tone up more rather than lose weight.

What I noticed made a huge difference when my weight dropped was that I had cut out all soft drink, fast foods, lollies, sweets, white breads and pasta, etc.

These days, I eat chocolate heaps (too much sometimes!) I can polish off a packet of Tim Tams in one go :P But other than that I only eat wholegrain cereals and breads, moderate amounts of meat and stacks of veggies and fruit. The only 2 cereals I touch is All-Bran or Weetbix. Most cereals have way too much sugar.

I don’t have much dairy and when I do it is low fat. Dairy is the only products where I worry about getting low fat stuff. In general I think products marketed as fat-free and low-fat are deceiving because they contain truck loads of extra sugar to make up for the less fat!! I also drink 2.5 - 3L water a day.

Walking is a fantastic way to get started and anyone can do it. I train in martial arts 3 – 4 times a week and I recently dislocated my shoulder. The only thing I could do was walk/jog and I’m glad I did because it helped to maintain my fitness and keep me on track. I also do Pilates once a week which is the best workout I have ever done. It really works your whole body but at the same time it’s relaxing and I look forward to it every week. I will be doing Pilates forever! I love it

I’ve also started cycling, not very good or fast at it yet. But I hope to improve on it so I can start riding to and from work (for exercise, to save money and to be greener by not driving!)

But basically at the end of the day it all comes down to the energy you take in (food) has to be less than the energy you put out (exercise)...

    Lea,

I can sympathise with the looking pg. I'm almost as heavy now as i was when I was 36wks pg!! I lust can't seem to shift it either. I have been going to the gym religiously every 2nd day, walking about 40mins every 2nd day and *trying* to watch what I'm eating. My biggest problem is that I am not used to being home all day and being so inactive. I am used to being at work fo 9+hrs, coming home to study and trying to cook and look after the house. Now I have time to look after the house easily and the kind of busy that being a mum takes is quite sedentary to me. Feeding and playing with a 4mth old is pretty quiet compared to being a childcare worker and looking after 25 3-5yr olds! I am eating more than I ever have because I have time...I have time to cook yummy (read fattening) foods, rather than easy salads or quick meals. But then I also have the time to make healthy foods too!! You aren't fat either, I'd give anything to be 70kg's again! I'm now 86kgs....Ahhh!! I hate being so fat you'd think I'd really pull my finger out huh???

    HI,

Try working out how much excercise that you have to do to 'burn off' the chocolate that you are about to put in your mouth. It really helped me, thinking that for 5 minutes of yummy indulgence would mean that i would have to do 20 minutes on the cross trainer... (look at the amount of kj on the pack and then next time you are at the Gym take note of how long it takes you to burn that much)

Also when you get the craving go and have a glass of water (at least 200mls) then wait 10 minutes. If you still feel like it, then have it.

The other one that is good (think someone else may have mentioned it above) is to find some dried fruit that you like and nuts and snack on them. not only will they satisfy your sweet craving, but also will keep you full for longer.

    Hope this helps!
