Nettie I'm glad you are all okay!
I'm feeling pretty good, have eaten healthy all day and gone for two walks. The fact I've dreamt of chocolate all day though.....
We were all shaken up (DH & DS were with me) - I just thank the Gods that DH saw that the car wasn't going to stop at the give way sign as DS was crying in the back (he wanted Daddy's donut as well as his own!) and I was distracted- but no injuries.
I gave the other driver a piece of my mind thoughand felt like calling into the bottle-o on the way home (even though i don't drink!).

ok, so no fast food (for me, that means no chicken wraps, small fries and iced coffee at Hungry Jacks)
what about the "reheat what's in the box" that you buy at the supermarket? is that "fast food"?
every time life gets hard, i become addicted to iced coffee - moving house/becoming single mum - has happened again
so maybe my "small step" should be No Buying Iced Coffee (600mls when buying petrol, or 3 litre bottles when doing supermarket shop)
that would be Huge for me. it's my "crutch".
at stressful times, i lose my confidence about how to cook, what to cook - which has happened again.
hence me using "reheat what's in the box" type food - which i realise is not real food.
e.g fish fingers, frozen spring rolls, ravioli in a box with carbonara in a tube (i have no idea how to make cabonara)
the one thing i have started doing again, is the "organising food/drink to go out" stuff.
i'm packing
large thermos of water for me, small thermos of water for bilby
25% apple juice/75% water tetra pack as treat for bilby
wholegrain sandwich of cheese slice/chutney/ham for bilby (only fillings i can get her to eat)
wholegrain sandwich of mayo/beetroot dip/ham/sliced tomato/lettuce for me
divided lunchbox with cherries, grapes, (whatever fruit is plentiful, on special that week), dried apricots, apricot delight squares
bananas
two divider lunchbox of dip on one side, sliced up wholemeal pita bread on other side
(in a cooler box on wheels, with frozen freezer bricks in there to keep it all cool)
compared to my lack of "cooking from scratch" now, my "going out food" is miles better. I'm sure they are much healthier ways of doing "going out food", but this is the best i can do right now.
Compounding all of this, is the fact that bilby hardly eats anything apart from cheese, yogurt, pears, chutney. She ate NOTHING on xmas day, except one mince pie. I used a "homebrand Tacos box" last night - she ate one tablespoon of cheese - and took 40 mins to do that So anything i DO cook, it's really only me eating it.
So i will join you lot
for me it will be (this is my public declaration)
- no buying Hungry Jacks
- no buying ANY form of iced coffee
- cook rice or pasta, as a meal base at least every 2nd night. even if plain cooked rice is boring to me, bilby will at least eat some of that, so i must remember to do it.
- stop buying cooked chooks from supermarket. buy a whole chicken and cook it myself.
these goals - and aiming for them
are better than my last year's "I must meal plan or i'm a failure" - and i didn't understand, or manage to work out meal plans, no matter how many pages i downloaded and printed from BB forum -
So it turns out I'm finding it hard to give up chocolate, I think this is made harder by the fact that I know I 'should' be giving it up for the month.
Instead.... this month will be about me NOT eating any take-away, drive-thru, deep fried foods or packaged chips. The odd piece of chocolate will be ok. Maybe that will take some of the pressure off and I'll stop craving it so much!?!?!
Anyone have an substitute ideas for chocolate????
Sharon, maybe you should buy really dark choc and only have a couple of pieces....that's what I 'try' and do! It's better for you and because it's stronger I can't eat as much of it. I'm struggling with choc too...DH has a box of mini toblerones in the fridge...so I'm only eating the dark ones![]()
OMG ditto..... i LOVE iced coffee its sooo hard to give up....even worse than giving up chocolate! When i read the sweet posion book this was one of the hardest things to do. I now only have an iced coffee twice a week and if i do its always a rush brand one as its lower in sugar and fat. Although i have to say DF likes hes iced coffee as well and with one sitting in the fridge most days the temptation is awful and i have HAD to have a few mouth fulls![]()
oh gosh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE ice coffee! That too is going to be my hardest thing. Everything else I've given up, but that is sooooo hard!
So how is everyone going?
Who's caved?
I havent been to a fast food outlet to buy any of that disgusting greasy, fat making food for myself since the 28th of December. Ive only been through drive through twice to buy the kids soft serves after swimming.
I have been really good and had no chocolate and no fast food. I went out for dinner last night and had stir-fry vegies with lemongrass and chilli and a vegetarian tom um soup - nom nom!
ive only just seen this thread but ready to take on the challenge, ive been eating far too much crap lately and need to substitute that for healthy foods, so day one begins ...... NOW!
I too am going to re-join as of...... NOW!
I've been terrible so my month will last until the 20th of Feb, which is perfect coz I start back work on the 21st and REALLY need to fit into my work clothes!
We have a very old (1990's) eliptical trainer thingy in the shed that's going to be ressurected (sp?) today and put into our room. My plan is to get 20mins or more done on that in the morning before hubby goes to work.
Bring it on!!!!!![]()
Any recommendations of what to eat thats not junk when you HAVE to eat out, i have to pick DH up at 5.30 40 mins away from here as well as lots to do in town this afternoon so cant cook ahead so we will have to buy tea in town and am NOT going down the hungry jacks, kfc, maccas road
Can I join you guys as of today? I am trying to ditch junk food as well. I need to do something serious, like a sugar detox or something, because my binges have gotten bigger and badder
I'm not sure where you're all up to (day 20? Did everyone start on 1st Jan?) but I will make today my 1st day.
This is going to be my downfall too. Hey, what about sex as a substitute? Admittedly, it's not as good as chocolate but some people reckon they are interchangable. LOL.Anyone have an substitute ideas for chocolate????
Are there any cafes? I don't consider cafe/restaurant food to be junk, unless it's a deep-fried greasy-Joe's joint. Maybe a sandwich/wrap from a cafe?Any recommendations of what to eat thats not junk when you HAVE to eat out
I'm happy to say I haven't had any take away at all, but I did have some choc covered almonds on Sat and a walnut scroll last week. I think I need to join a Nut Addicts Anon group, they are my biggest downfall!
I've been baaaaaaaaddd!
I had 3 white chocolate tim tams today..and a bacon and egg sandwich from the lunch van at morning tea
plus a chocolate milk
Tomorrow is another day! I'll just try to make sure it's not the same as this one! :P
Yesterday turned out ok for me..... until a friend turned up with an ice-cream! They seem to be my biggest downfall at the moment. I think I remember chocolate paddlepops being not as bad for you on the ww points scheme a few years ago so maybe I need to keep a couple of those in my freezer for the ice-cream moments.
I need to get my $hit sorted on the exercise front...... some days it's just too hard!I know I need to make the effort but....... some days I just can't be bothered and there are a billion other things that need doing, feeding ds2, playdates for ds1, washing, dishes, dinner etc....
Any suggestions for getting me motivated???
start with one thing first...even if its just drinking a galss of water instead of coke.
exercise....Im going to make sure that i get back tothe gym, it opens at 6am so I try to get there then and that way im home when the kids get up with hubby
well............................... ummm i would be lying if i said i havent had anything bad...... dame you iced coffee!
But i have kept up with the exercise most days which thankfully i havent put on wieght....only down fall i havent lost any either lol
Tomorrow....yes another day back to cutting out as much sugar as possible :S
