yes, but I don't have top sheets so really it just means tidying up the doona and pillows. But believe me as a reasonably reformed slob, I feel like a complete champion when I do that.

    Do you make the bed?

Beds have to be made everyday here. I have got DS "making" his bed which for me is great as its getting harder to bend over! It's more of a straighten that he goes but I won't complain! I also can't have towels on the floor, they get all smelly & don't dry properly!

I see making the bed as something quite different from putting away dishes or clothes, or cleaning/straightening up other areas ...

I suspect this is because to actually use the bed, I have to undo the making of it! Wheres to stack the dishwasher it needs to have been unstacked, to use the bench, it needs to be clear of dishes and clean, to use areas in my house, it needs to not have Mt Foldmore skulking around, to use my desk it needs to not have a pile of filing sitting there, etc.

But the bed? It doesn't get used for anything other than the obvious, we don't hang out in the bedroom for anything else, and it's not visible to passers by ... so there's no incentive for me personally for it to be getting its pretty on. I benefit from how it feels, and because I roll around so much, a nice tightly tucked sheet isn't a big bonus.

Whereas with other areas, it's nice to see them clean and sparkly and tidy, or to be able to have full use of them because there's not other things cluttering up the way.

Yup, rarely isn't my bed made. But I don't tend to worry about DD1's as she still naps. If we are having visitors, I make sure hers is made too. My mum is super anal when it comes to making beds so part of her has rubbed off on me. Unless we were sick and in bed, I can't recall ever being able to leave our beds unmade as kids!

I feel so much better and 'together' when my house is tidy but I've had to let go of it a bit since having kids.

I don't see the point - who's going to see it? And it's just going to get slept in again anyway...
Yeah that! All those years of my Mum nagging me about it achieved nothing :P

Does everyone have cover sheets or something because I just have a doona and only need to to pull it back up and straighten the pillows a bit. And fitted sheets mean no maintenance there either. Is that considered making the bed? I remember in the 'good old days' when making the bed involved tucking in sheets and blankets and then folding back the sheet over the top of the blanket to make it neat. My dad also used to make us do 'hospital corners'

Yeah redrobin I've got a flat sheet too.

DH is really messy when he sleeps so I often don't make the bed til we are getting in it, so I can make HIM do it as my side is generally quite tidy.

Case in point - last night he was away, so I made the bed all nice, got in and went to sleep then woke up in the same position I went to sleep in, bed still neat. So it's already made this morning because it was so easy to do.

    I'm a neat sleeper

I'm a neat sleeper too. While DH is away during the week all I have to do is twitch the corner and the bed is remade. Today the bottom sheet on his side is pulled off, the doona is sideways and the bedspread is half-off the bed

fitted sheet, flat sheet, 2 blankets (in winter) and a doona. And when it's really cold, another doona just on my side.

I thought the whole point of a doona was that it didn't need sheets...Well that is what I remember from all the hoohah about them when they became popular in the early 80s in my part of suburban Brisbane!
I just have a fitted sheet and doona. Easy bed making in my house!

Also you must feel the cold! Even in a UK winter I still use the same doona (duvet here!) Although we do have central heating

Is this how you ladies do it? Eight steps to make a bed neatly! How to Make up a Bed Neatly: 8 steps - wikiHow Must admit there is something very enticing about the look of the sheet folded back over a blanket. Might go search my linen cupboard for flat sheets and blankets!

The doona feels so much better with a sheet under it. I hate sleeping without both sheets.
Our heating turns off at 10.30 and back on at 6.30 because I read somewhere that you sleep better in a cold room. No idea if it's true or not lol.

I think mine isn't on all night. exDH set the timer so I have no idea! The radiator is never hot in my bedroom so maybe should get it sorted!

I'm a really hot sleeper and will often kick the doona off but I need something over me still so I have sheet under the doona. You do sleep better in a colder room as you need your body temp to drop apparently.
