yeah i've hired one once, did our place and did mum's on the weekend we had it, so could share the cost. i found it left the carpet quite damp in comparison to the one i'd borrowed from a friend in the past - so next time we were buying stuff from harvey norman, we found one there and bought it - much dryer clean for sure.

the cleanliness from the rug doctor was good - but it took several veeeeeeeeeeeeeery slow passes across the carpet to draw the moisture back out. the bissel we have now is much better (and it paid for itself after being used a few times cos it cost maybe 3 times the hire of the rug doctor)

BG is the bissell you have the pet one? I have recently purchased this one and it was great. And yeah, it will pay for itself within a few uses.

yup, we had cats and dogs that came inside at the time, and so did mum - so we got that one - it's been awesome. we were cleaning 25 year old carpet (that i suspect had never been properly cleaned) and it was coming up really nice)

i use one every 6 months (renting) and we love it, the used water is virtually black!!

to buy one is less than $300 for the pet model which we have if you go through goodguys - then you can negotiate for cash discounts if you have the cash to pay for it. ours came with so much shampoo we've never had to buy any either - they just threw heaps in for us! it's fantastic having it right there - E spilt portello on the carpet (DOH!) and it was cleaned up in no time with no residual marking cos the shampooer was just there - i can't recall how much they are to rent the rug doctor ones, but from memory, they're about 70 plus shampoo for a weekend, so it doesn't take long to get your money back

bissell have them for hire - they drop off & pick up, the cost is about the same as rug doctor but the results were honestly 100x better... Rug Dr made me wonder if it worth worth the energy or if I should just pay to get it done, Bissell I would do again. But order and extra bottle of solution - we ran out 1/2 way through the house (luckily they dropped one off for free).

we have a bissell as well....not the pet one, the next model up from that. Best investment, great for cleaning up squished banana and weet bix and even vomit....has paid for itself here for sure.
