    Egg and Sperm Donations

    Hi Everyone

I would hate to upset anyone but i wonder if any of the husband and wife ( hetero) couples would consider a sperm / egg swap arrangement.

I know it sounds radical and would only appeal to those who have sympathy for the lesbian community in their quest for parenthood.

But say if a hetero couple needed eggs and a lesbian couple needed sperm each couple has what the other needs to create a couple of children.

Please don't shoot me down in flames I am very serious in putting forward this idea for solving peoples gamete shortages.

I am no longer in a position to help physically anymore so if something I can say can help create even one yearned for child all the better.

I have a little boy from a known sperm donor and felt soooo privilaged.I gave birth to a little girl who is living with her two dads, but at 39 I am too old to have any more babies or to donate my eggs.

I would just love to see those with the common thread of desperately wanting to parent put prejudices aside and help each other.

Just something to think about ! Our world is changing all the time and who knows there may be one child out there who is created withh the above suggestion.

    Cheers
    Deanna

    Hi deanna,

You've obviously given and received the most amazing gifts possible. My belief is any and every variation on giving and recieving should be possible when it involves consenting and informed adults. About 6 months ago we heard my dh didn't have sperm so we had to consider donor options, of which I'll admit my thinking went to gay friends of mine who might be willing to donate. Fortunately further testing found a stray sperm or two in dh, so we're now undergoing ivf/icsi treatment, about to begin a 2nd cycle after our 1st cycle was a bfn. However, I also have two friends who are a lesbian couple, and we've had a similar discussion. At the moment their only other option is to go to Tassie or Albury, i think. It's only after going through what i have in the past 6 months, that I know we would willingly offer them dh sperm, if there's anything left to give after all these biopsies, that is. Saying that though it probably wouldn't be without a (selfish) condition, namely, that I hopefully would have been successful in having my own baby or two. I think my preference also would be for friends or family I know well as opposed to anonymous - and that goes for either hetero and homo sexual couples. When we were considering finding a donor, my preference then was also for a known one, not anonymous - for a whole bunch of reasons.
