Ebay/Paypal - can she do this??

She sent me an email saying that's why she had to do it - she'd sold about 8 items in 24 hours and it would cost her $120 in postage which is why she needed the funds to clear. I get that.

Unfortunately seller's aren't allowed to say they prefer methods other than PayPal anymore . They have no choice but to accept PayPal and aren't allowed to say they won't accept it or their listing will be pulled. (Guess who owns PayPal ).

That's carp. But I'm glad I know that now, it's made me a lot less cranky at the seller and I won't leave negative feedback now. It's not her fault, but it still sucks!

You have to offer PP, but you can certainly say you prefer DD!! lol Woman needs to read some ads

And yes, Ebay own PP - that is why it was invented, and it is fabulous - LOVE PP, but i do a LOT of online shopping esp with the business - i don't even have a bank account set up with PP - just the Visa Debit card and my PP balance.


So glad she sent you a response though, PITA but at least she isn't trying to be malicious

Just FYI, it can depend on your payment method when it comes to Paypal. There is 'eCheque', which yes, takes 5 days to clear into the seller's Paypal account (and then another 3 days after transfer for them to access it, kwim?), and there's a credit card option which debits money instantly and the seller receives it. Often when I sell things on eBay, people don't have a credit/debit card linked to their Paypal account and so I have a 'pending' payment for up to 10 business days - and yes, I hang onto my item until the money has cleared just in case, because there's no guarantee that they have adequate funds and if they know the eCheque is going to take days to clear on my end, they might take a gamble on me posting the item before payment clears and so if they don't have enough money, I might not know that until after I've posted the stuff, kwim??
Sorry, that probably doesn't make much sense, if you have a credit card linked to your Paypal then yes, this seller is in the wrong for holding out (sounds like s/he just wanted to transfer the money to his/her bank account first in order to access it, which yes, is unfair), but if you're paying through Paypal's eCheque or don't have instant payments set up, then it's actually advised by both eBay and Paypal that sellers DO NOT post any items until the payment has cleared after 5 business days.

Good on you though for taking the better option of 'resolve a problem' rather than just leaving negative feedback. This seller is probably in the wrong but just in case it is in fact that the payment has taken time to be deposited in the seller's account, they would probably feel a bit hard-done by getting neg feedback for something that's out of their control.

Glamourcide - I have my paypal account linked to a credit card, funds are available instantly.

In any event, I STILL have not received this item. I contacted her on Friday and she said she'd posted it the previous Thursday (ie the thurs before Easter). I checked with the PO just in case they were holding it for me and I didn't get the 'come collect it' slip but nope, they don't have it either.

I will contact the seller tonight to let her know I haven't received it but if it doesn't turn up, what do I do? Have I blown $60?

It is going to be VERY hard for me not to leave negative feedback on this transaction. It's been nothing but a PITA from the start.

FWIW I posted about 15 orders on Thursday before easter, and 10 on the Saturday - so far ONE has made to its destination....AP re sucking loudly at the moment...

So maybe give it a couple of more days

I think you need to wait two weeks before opening a dispute. You can then put in a claim with eBay/PayPal and hopefully get your $$ returned if the item hasn't shown up.

Stay friendly with her atm and ask her to chase it up with Australia Post. Only the sender can do this. Hope it turns up soon!

Hmmm honestly, i do this when the shipping is going to cost alot or i have sold alot of things to lots of different buyers. One thing i sold on ebay a few weeks ago cost $25 in shipping. I just dont have that money in my pocket to ship the items until it arrives in my account. Thats just the way it is when you pay with paypal, hense buyers paying for shipping. I however do state on my auctions that items will be shipped within 4 days as it generally takes 3-4 day for the payment from paypal to arrive in my account. Sux, but thats just the way it is unfortunately.
