I once went to a parenting forum where the word "deliver" was censored! The administrators thought is was derogatory for women "delivering" their babies. I can see their point... but it's still a bit odd.
a friend of mine got an unknowingly dodgy email from ebay after she bought something and it asked her to verify her information which she did. within 24hrs she was a victim of identity fraud with - literally took her identity and spent her money, claimed on her social security (US citizen) and Feds said nothing can be done..
it was complete hell for her.
so yes, be weary!
I hate it when people send cr@p like that. I get them from the "ANZ" all the time telling me my account security is being compromised. Too bad I dont have a ANZ account Idiots!!
NEVER NEVER NEVER click on the links in these emails. Hover over it (in outlook) if you're interested and it should give you the url. WHATEVER the url says, forward it to eBay.
If there is a problem with your account you will be told that when you log in to eBay, using your password, they might email you if you have a problem, but they never ONLY email you, and in the emails i've had (legit) there are no links - it tells you to log in to your account for details.
o/t- the code (computer programming) that takes out expletives is WAY simpler than you are anticipating. It just basically says "if p is next to r is next to i is next to c is next to k then replace each with *". It isn't "reading" anything, it's only flagging the sequence. And in most cases the board comes wither with the programme and the owner (Kel and the admin in this case) set the words, or it comes with a preset bunch and you can add or remove (hence "deliver" being offensive (though i do wonder how anyone offended by something so mild could COPE being the parent to a toddler or a teenrager!). It would be incredibly pointlessly difficult to programme a board to only take out "meant" expletives. If you call a cigarette a fag in the UK, people know you mean a cigarette. In america that is a very derogatort word for a homosexual person. Potatoes/*******s! LOL.
Definately dodgy I recieved one a few months back and forwarded it on to paypal...I also recieved an email once about my Commonwealth bank account....um I dont have an account with them and today recieved a dodgy email from some "sick' woman in England who wanted my money to set up a c harity????
I think a lot of people justify it to themselves that you'll get the money back by claiming fraud through your bank etc. So they're not ripping off the little guys- just the big insurance companies. Makes our fees go up though...
