seller taking ages to post item.. wait or get paypal refund?

    Hey guys

I recently bought some girls clothes on ebay. It was $10.55, and i only asked after the auction if i can pick up as i knew it was <10km from where i was, she said no so i had to pay $15 for postage.

My fault, i normally ask before i bid, and i did clarify price as $15 seems excessive to me, but her reply was
"hi, sounds pretty reasonable considering the weight of the items all those pieces together add up."
Anyway, i paid via payapl on the 13th June. On the 18th i sent a message asking when i could expect my item. On the 19th (last Thursday) she sent this message:

Hi sorry about the delay but my daughter hasn't been feeling too well and i haven't been able to leave the house. i will be posting it off tomorrow.
OK, very annoyed by now, as i had sick kids also, but i could at least get to a post office once in 4 days, or at the very least email and tell them before they contacted me.

If she posted it on Friday, i should have had it by Monday, very latest by Tuesday. It still hasn't come in todays post. Even if it comes tomorrow, that is still 9 working days after i paid for it.... and charging $15 which i know includes a HUGE extra fee, is making me very angry.

Would you bother emailing back saying you said you were posting it almost a week ago and i still don't have it, or would you just file a dispute through paypal to get my money back? I'm quite happy to get my money back and forget about it, DD will almost be out of this size at the rate this is going!

Will paypal return my money straight away, or will they keep giving plenty of chances also?

I've just been through a similar thing.
I paid for an item on the 5th June and received it yesterday. It was coming from Melbourne, but still, does not take more than 2 weeks to get to qld. I emailed the seller twice, and went as far as getting their number. Since they received the email notifying them that I had asked for their number, they sent me an email saying that they posted it to the wrong address, and they were sending it again (it had been returned to them by then).
I'd personally give it another week - then explore options. And if you get it - leave negative feedback like I did this morning
    Good luck!!!

Well she seems very unreasonable and expects you to wait so if you are over the clothes and it does not worry you i would just get your money back. Thats my opinion though, i don't understand why people won't let you pick up if they want more money for the item then they should just put the starting bid up higher.

i just sent a bit of a rude email saying it was appaling service, and if its not here in the post by tomorrow, i will be getting a refund back from paypal.

I also hate it when people don't let you pick up.

    $15 postage...for clothes..WTF!!

Im sure it could all go into a 3kg bag and they are only $9.50 or roughly that much.

make sure you leave her Neg feedback....how could some one be so rude. An email at least to say she wasnt able to get to the PO would ahve been nice.

    kim i hope they're $9.50 not $950 lol
I thought ebay had a procedure for complaining about excessive postage? Unless your clothes weigh more that 3kg, or are fragile and require bubble wrap, then 15 is excessive for <10km away from you. I' make a complaint.

Some people wont let you do pick up for privacy reasons, but they could always arrange to meet your somewhere in public if that were the case.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Ok, i didn't get it with the mail today, so i put in a paypal request, but then i went outside just now and it was sitting on my doorstep.

Anyway, it was only posted yesterday (suprise, suprise), and get this - postage was $6.95 (all she did was wrap it in a black rubbish bag & sticky tape, it wasn't even packaged with one of those tough bags)..

I wanted to send a message asking for the rest of the $15 to be returned, how would you word it??

Id be making a complaint to eBay in regards to it, and emailing her saying please justify how the postage on this item $6.95 and you charged $15

    LMAO!!!!

I've had alot of similar problems, I've also emailed about very expensive postage (I think it was about $15 for one top!?!) & they emailed me back saying the cost was not only for postage but also for "handling", like the seller having to actually put it in the post box for you. You may get a similar response.

I would definately email them though & DEFINATELY leave negative feedback for her. She was so rude & inconsiderate! She can only leave positive feedback for you now too hehehe (Damn new rules!)

I'm so angry for you.... grrrrrr

i still think they are only allowed to charge a reasonable amount for handling, and 6-7 dollars IMO in unreasonable. I would query it with ebay.

Worth reporting the postage costs to eBay. Any item posted from a Melbourne metro area to another Melbourne metro area will cost $6.95 (or less if it's a tiny item) regardless of the size/weight. I don't know where she pulled that figure from!

I hope you hear back from her re: the postage costs. I always refund extra postage if I have misquoted, some people are just rude and greedy .

Ive been following this thread with interest - i hate, with a passion people overcharging postal costs on ebay. Ive actually stopped the whole bidding on ebay now, im over greedy people. Ive noticed some 'buy it now ' things are like $5 for an item, but postage is $10 !!! - and its a article of clothing - WTF ???

I wouldnt be rude, but to the point 'Got the item. Can you please give me a quick run down of how you came up with the $15 postage price? I have ebay looking into it (which you dont, but just scare her) but was wanting clarification from you too. Thanks (biatch !!)
