I did that with a pair of socks. Figured socks weren't really worth returning by the time I had worked out I had 2 pairs. I think it is too late to bother returning it now. If something of my DS's hasn't been returned within a few weeks then I figure I will never see it again.
Don't beat yourself up, it probably would have been put in the charity bin if you hadn't taken it.
