i couldn't see a specific thread for Fibroid sufferers so please feel free to point me in the right direction...or continue on with this thread
I was diagnosed with a fibroid about 3 years ago after i suffered a MC. My partner at the time and I had split up when this has happened. My first specialist wanted to do a mymectomy straight away, didn't inform me of the dangers/risks and thankfully it never went ahead as i had to move interstate. So then I found another specialist who did a lap to check out what was going on and he diagnosed me with adenoymyosis. He put me on Synarel for 6 months then strongly suggested i try to conceive straight after. The synarel was horrible, hot flushes etc. and it took months for my cycle to begin after i stopped taking it. It did stop the fibroid from growing but didn't shrink it as the specialist though it might. Being single i wasn't in a position to TTC so it was pretty much a put up with it situation.
Since then i've seen a couple of other specialist and they've told me it's a fibroid, and a cyst. it now measures 7.5 by 4cms.
I have now been with my partner for 20 months and we've been TTC since October last year. Nothing. My cycles are all over the place, my period is ridicoulsy heavy in the first few days, so much so that i really can't go out in public for more than a couple of hours as I will leak all over the place. Its really horrible. Then the pain each month, i'm extremely irritable, i've been diagnosed with iron defficient anaemia due to the loss of blood and all the other fun things fibroids bring
ANyone else out there suffer from fibroids? I live in a remote area where there aren't any fibroid experienced specialists so all they tell me is wait and see...
i would love to hear stories from anyone suffereing from fibroids
My first pregnancy ended in a mc and it was at that point I was told I had fibroids. There were two at that time, nothing the size of yours though. I was told that sometimes bubby can attach to a fibroid which won't lead to a successful pregnancy. A few months after that we fell pg again and I had spotting right through. I ended up with five fibroids, one in the birth canal and one where a c/section cut would have to go. I spent the pregnancy terrified that I wouldn't be able to deliver, that I'd have a premature birth and I spotted right through the pregnancy. DD got past the fibroid in my birth canal and I was able to have a vaginal delivery. Due to the size and positioning of them, my ob suggested I have them removed after DD was born.
After she was born. I went to get them checked to start the process of getting them removed. The ultrasound showed that I only had two, and one was calcified. Was told that breastfeeding would have helped shrink and kill them (I breastfed for 14 months). The two remaining are not in problem spots, and have shrunk to minimal size, so my ob said to leave them be, removing them would cause me more harm than good at this point. The only bad thing was that my period is super heavy too and can last up to 10 days (in a 28 day cycle). The heaviest days I have to wear two maternity pads at the one time and change them every hour or so. This has only happened since DD was born.
I fell pg again early last year and lost the baby a few weeks later. We gave it some time and fell pg in November and up until last night I've had no issues whatsoever (last night had a small amount of spotting). Each ultrasound I've had have shown that this time around they aren't doing much. My pregnancy with DD - well I have a photo of one jutting out of my belly!
As far as I'm aware, I'm the only one in my related family that has them. My stepmother had one that grew and grew - she looked pregnant. She had to have it removed and have a hysterectomy at the same time. I keep mine in check because I don't want to be in that position, but have to resign myself that it might happen regardless. I plan to breastfeed again this time around in the hope that I can be rid of them altogether.
thanks for sharing PacRakMG. you give me hope that you can still conceive and carry to full term even if you have fibroids. spotting the whole way through would have been horrible for you, especially after the MC.
My period is the same! it lasts for about the same time and the amount of pads you go through are ridiculos, i haven't tried the maternity ones though, i just use the super and still manage to leak if i'm not careful. I might try the maternity ones next time. night time is the worst, i'm so paranoid about not waking up and messing the bed that i hardly sleep a wink those first couple of nights. my cycles are on average at the moment of 42 days. I don't know how i'd cope if they were every 28 like yours Doc did mention that i may not be ovulating due to the long cycles. In dec I had pain and spotting mid cycle that then turned into full on bleeding for two fulls weeks. i was exhausted. I had ultrasounds and they said there's nothing out of the ordinary that's causing, just the fibroid (which they incorrectly diasgnosed as a cyst).
it gets really frustrating getting different stories and opinions. i"m currently looking into a specialist in sydney by the name of Dr Lam who is apparently one of Australias top surgeons in Gynaecology. I spoke to them today and they can do a phone consult i just have to send them all my previous medical records. i'm looking forward to getting an answer/opinion on what to do.
I"m the same as you PacRakMG in that none of my family (that i'm aware of) have them either. So it's all new territory.
