This is kinda off topic, but I just thought I'd ramble for a bit seeing that you mentioned people recovering from HIV/AIDS, you might find it interesting:

A few years ago I watched an amazing docu on pestilence and HIV. I'm a little foggy on the details, but this is the basic gist:
Some researchers had heard stories of amazing recoveries from the pestilence in a small village in Great Britain. They had a theory that the disease was actually caused by a virus not by a bacteria transferred by fleas from rats. This little town had been quarantined during one of the big outbreaks. But a large number of people survived. There were cases of people becoming very ill with pestulence for a couple of weeks, but they got better while some of their family members died. Other stories told of mothers nursing their sick husbands, parents and children eventually losing them all to the horrible disease while the mothers themselves never got sick. This village was pretty isolated, so the gene pool was isolated unitl the beginning of the 20th century. The researchers did genetic studies on the descendants of these villagers and found a high incidence of a small genetic mutation. Further research left them with the conclusion that people who had one copy of this mutated gene would contract pestulance but were able to recover from it. People who had 2 copies of this mutation were immune to the disease. Furthermore they found that people from areas in Europe that had been ravaged by the disease multiple times had a high incidence of this mutation. This makes sense as mainly people with the mutation would have survived, so this mutation would have been passed through the generation.

With this conlusion they then applied the same theory to HIV/AIDS. The same mutation that gave protection against the Black Death, also gives protection against HIV/AIDS as the two diseases have a similar way of getting through the body's defence system and then binding to white blood cells. If you have the mutation, you either don't contract HIV or you can recover from it, never actually developing AIDS. Seeing that Europe and America has a large percentage of descendants of survivors of the plague, this also explains why HIV/AIDS spreads much more slowly there than it does in regions like Asia and Africa where this mutation is pretty much non-existent.

I always had an interest in human genetics, so this story really stuck in my mind.

Oh, and good on you for finding a treatment/cure for your condition. You knwo what, I think we shouldn't feel afraid to try out anything. Well, unless it might be harmful. If it works for you, then that is great. If you get someone else interested and this method works for them, too, that's fantastic.I really do believe what Justin said about the Chinese Proverb "same disease, different treatment". We all respond differently to things. And sometimes our diseases are caused by multiple things. It is so easy to get disheartened when there seems to be no treatment (I know, I had pustular psoriasis and my mum suffers from that and arthritic psoriasis). We have tried so many things. My mum still hasn't found anything that works for her. Mine just disappeared when I was about 4 months pregnant and hasn't returned since).

Ok, I stop babbling on now. All the best to all of you PCOS and Endo sufferers out there. I hope you find something that works for you.
