Ok, this isn't for me, a friend of mine, using the same clinic as us, has just had a lap about a week ago, and was diagnosed with endo.
It was all removed/cauterised (sp?) but the dr is recommending Zoladex for 6 months.
I was always under the impression that after a lap someone with endo is MOST fertile, because there is nothing there.
But the dr is going on about my friend being "too young" (20, like me), and says "you're young, so what does it matter if it puts you back a few years?", which personally I think is a immature attitude for a dr to have.
They're also very scared that the dr is going to have a "my way or the highway" attitude if they refuse doing the zoladex treatment. I know he probably would, because when I refused certain medications for PCOS he got very pushy.
Anyway, my friend is wondering about alternative treatments, ones that don't have some horrid side effects, and I thought "ah huh! BB would have some answers!".
So, ladies, all your wisdom, knowledge, and experience would really come in handy! Any alternative treatments out there? And can anyone answer my question... Aren't you MOST fertile after a successful lap? Wouldn't right now be the best time for them to TTC?
Oh this sounds soooooooooo familiar. Many doctors in my teens and early adulthood just assumed that I was too young and not wanting to have a baby therefore they suggested / prescribed various types of treatments without making it clear the conseuences of letting things go on for too long.
Do a search on here for other posts about zoladex and print them off for your friend. I was prescribed another drug , danazol last year which I was very against and this lead to me finding a wonderful surgeon who cured my endo in two major ops - and yes this did increase my fertility and in fact I was pregnant 6 - 8 weeks later BUT HAVING SAID THAT, your friend needs to be ready to TTC and as you didn't indicate in your post whether that is the case or not I'm not sure what alternatives to suggest.
I know after surgery things DO improve, if she doesn't want to TTC or go on drugs perhaps she could look at natural therapies ie: herbalist, diet etc.........some ppl are very successful at keeping the endo at bay after surgery with these measures. She needs to think that ATM she has a clean slate and find the best way to keep it that way til she is ready to TTC.
I cannot stress enough that she should get a 2nd opinion and a 3rd if necessary. If I had excepted the local gyno's advice I would have had a hysterectomy and would not be looking forward to the birth of my son any day now !!!!!!!
Good luck to you and your friend..........hope this helps a little.
