I just left my 4.5 month old at home when I went to work on wed and he has 140mls one feed 120mls another feed and 100mls for the last feed. I think it's hard to predict so I feel u need to leave a little extra to be safe.
I use Swisspers breast milk storage bags (MUCH cheaper than the Medela ones, only $5 for 20 at many chemists) and the Happy Baby ice cube trays when I was freezing smaller amounts. I'd be reluctant to use normal zip lock bags as the plastic is no where near as thick as the breast milk bags. They could split and I'm sure I also read that the milk could be exposed to freezer smells and lose a lot of goodies.
I freeze in 100ml lots now and that's generally enough for DD2 (just gone 5 mths). Sometimes she'd like more though but usually it's given between feeds like when she's in the crèche while DD1 has swimming or if my parents or DH are watching her while I'm out.
The size of a feed is very baby-dependent. A 4 month old will drink anything from 800ml to 1-and-a-bit-litres of BM a day. But some will have 5 big feeds and some will have 10 little ones and some will have a mixture of both.
How you freeze depends on how hard it is for you to express (and therefore how much "wasting" is a problem). And also how willing your baby is to wait while the second instalment of their milk is defrosted! It also changes once solids are involved and you can put the leftover milk into cereal or dinner or whatever...
