Its stupid hey! Our neighbours are in an even smaller house than ours yet its the same classification - they don't even have a dining area, they have to eat outside or on the couch!

Well I rang up and had a whinge (lied and said one of my friends had houses available and they are the same entitlement as us and moving here soon :P) and literally 5min later we had 3 choices uploaded into our homefind. We looked at one in Kirwan (The Avenues) today that I really liked (did a sneaky drive by) but the only weird thing is that its tiled completely, bedrooms and everything and DH isn't really keen on that - easy for him to say he doesn't do the cleaning! But we will hold out until the end of next week to see if anything better comes along, otherwise I'll be grabbing that one. Had separate living, lounge, and dining areas and is almost a third bigger than the house we're in now! Its amazing how houses built 5 years ago were actually built to live in but now they're not!

DCO also said they can't really help us but said to definitely put in a complaint with the DHA manager in Townsville regarding the poor handling of it all, and get medical notes from our doctors, so I'll do that Tuesday since we're going back to the doc for DH's knee then.

My house is tiled completely throughout and I LOVE it. No carpet for kids to ruin, and believe me, they ruin it! No carpet cleaning costs on removal. Cant really ruin tiles. Keeps house cool in summer too.

Thats what I said! I was like...but honey tiles are like...so easy! Our dogs have trashed the carpet in our bedroom here, I shampoo it every second day when I do the floors and it still looks like hell. But luckily the aircon had been leaking and left a huge watermark on the carpet (that we had to report 8 TIMES before someone came out to look at it!) so we can pass a lot of it off on that.

EDIT: We checked back and a few of the houses were gone already! So we snapped up the one in Kirwan and DH will just have to suck up the lack of carpet lol. I told him we can just get rugs. I figured, what if we wait and then there's only smaller ones and that one goes, at least this way we wouldn't know what we missed out on. I also noticed that the leasing requirements (for people looking to loan DHA a house) don't meet the requirements of the houses (at least the ones we've looked at/been to) DHA owns and rents out to people - certainly not the house were in now, or our neighbours house. That seems a bit wrong...yet I am in no way surprised lol

Bex - We only got ours 3 weeks before DH finished so don't stress! You know how ADF is - couldn't organise a shag in a brothel with a wallet full of cash lol

Exactly, and I think thats whats so annoying about it. We know they're surely not that disorganised that they wouldn't already know well ahead of time, so why can't they just tell us? What do they think we're idiots or something? I highly doubt it would be a matter of national security either!

I just applied for jobs and stuff in all the possible places we might end up, and getting in touch with anyone I knew in those places, because I got sick of waiting to be told where we were going. Unfortunately the only place I didn't get any offers for jobs and knew the least amount of people was Townsville. Epic fail.

Not sure how many Defence family ladies we've still got hanging around but I thought I would bump this thread.

Also, have just heard that Tap Dogs are doing a FREE SHOW for ADF families in the Canberra region next week. For details see the Defence Families Australia FB page, as you need to email to secure your tickets.
