With #2 it was fate. I was full time breastfeeding, hadn't had AF at all, my DH and I had DTD twice and whammo. I wasn't ready - far from it - and I won't lie that the first couple of years with a 12 month gap weren't incredibly difficult for me, but I wouldn't swap that close age gap in my girls for anything now. We had originally hoped for more like 18 months - I was almost 37 when DD1 was born.

This time around it was one of those things I was very much against for a long time, then slowly the feeling that I wasn't done got stronger. I lost four babies in our efforts to conceive #3 so the gap between #2 and #3 is bigger than what I was hoping for, but it is what it is and I'm happy for whatever I get.

I really don't think there is any wrong time. You deal with what comes your way, and you love the children you're blessed with.

I had them as close together as possible because I'm not really a fan of babies and I figured that it was better just to get the baby stage out of the way asap so we could get on with the fun stuff.

The fact that we had problems conceiving our DD. I thought it would be the same second time around and it is, still is. We actively started ttc just after DD turned 1 yo, she is now 4.5 yo and we are doing IVF. If I didn't have problems then I really don't know. Plus I am 36 this year, so no spring chicken

Sorry to those I offended, I couldn't get the tone right in writing. I meant I can't answer why people have children closer together.

But just for the record, my 3 year old calls my 8 month old his best friend and they're gorgeous together, she adores him like nothing else so I'm perfectly happy with this age difference. I really wouldn't trade those slow walks on the beach, holding his hand, collecting shells, looking at baby fish without any other children. I'll have to make sure dd gets the same.

Thing is, I wouldn't swap those slow walks listening to them talking together about everything and anything for the world. It's double the joy.

It is beautiful isnt it onyx
My closest gap obviously the twins and although they cant talk yet the way the communicate with each other and follow each other everywhere is magical.
Despite what anyone thinks about not having babies too close together to not take away that one on one time - you dont always get the choice how many babies grow mother nature blessed us with a double miracle

Kuraiza - you didn't offend me at all. I think its one of those things that we probably all love what we have, and perhaps see more disadvantages to others' situations simply because they're not our own and we don't also experience the unique joys they can bring. I can see advantages and disadvantages to both scenarios - just as well given the age gap to #3 I'm going to be experiencing both scenarios!!
