Post How long does it take for your house to fall apart if mum's out of action?

I've been down with gastro for 48 hours now and the house looks like a bombs hit, there are no clean plates or glasses and the washing has already backed up. How long does it take your house to fall to bits when mum's out of action?

I hope you are feeling better soon. It's terrrible when you are sick and can't do anything. Don't worry about the house falling apart. You just need to rest. Our house falls apart and looks like a bombs hit it in a matter of an hour. Our place would be a right off in 48 hours but if I were you I'd just rest and deal with the house when you are well. Just do the absolute essentials.

My house falls apart as soon and DH and the kids get home. it is only in a decent state when I have been the only one home for a while and am in the mood to clean!

i was gone for an hour a few weekends ago and every single toy in the house was out and scattered through out the house. so i would say less then an hour. By the way i made DH and the boys clean it up while i sat there and watched them.
    Hope you feel better soon.

Yep, about an hour here too. I've been out of action with a chest and throat infection for a few days too and you should see my place. It's a pigsty, but you know what I just can't be bothered to do it, so it's not getting done...my laundry is absolutely stuffed full of dirty clothes and now it's raining it's going to be a while before anything gets washed since our dryer carked it!

It's amazing you don't relise how much you actually do until you can't do it then you relise how crazy you are for not getting them (hubbby and kids) to pick up after themselves. It must be the end of the world to put your socks in the wash basket or a dirty plate in the dishwasher. lol
It's also amazing how fast they'll comment on the mess if your out of action!

Haha! I've had one of those days where I WAS in action and the house was falling apart! Toddlers! :P

I really hope you feel better soon Lori, it sucks to be sick and watch your clean house go to poop hey. Can you get anyone to do some dishes and washing for you, so you won't have so much to catch up on? Trade them if you need, say you'll take them out for dinner when you're well, or bake them cookies or something?

About a week here. DH is pretty good at "helping" (ie doing all the housework rather than just some) if I'm really, truly ill. But if I'm ill two weekends then bam, it's over. Apparently he can't do housework with DS around so I have to take him out for three hours once a month or so so DH can do his deep-clean (he'd rather clean than go to the park... I'm happy with this!), yet I'm expected to keep the house at a reasonable level with DS around.

Ah well, DS is pretty good at clearing up now - washing machine, dishwasher and toybox all loaded by DS some days!

Mine goes to pot even when I'm up and about.

My dear DH tries to help when I'm sick, but somehow, he thinks that if he stuffs everything in corners, then the house is clean. I think it makes more work for me, really. But I haven't said anything to him, because housework and caring for the kids makes him feel so flustered and overwhelmed, I feel more sorry for him than anything. I always try to imagine me running his jobsite, and realize how much trouble I'd be in there, and I can sympathize a little better with him not being able to run my house.

So sorry to hear that you're feeling lousy LoriRae - hope it doesn't last too long! I find that my household appreciates me much more after I've been sick - maybe you'll have that benefit, at least!
