Default Looking for an AWESOME fertility doc in Melbourne...

    Hi girls,

Well I really need to do something pro-active again, please can somebody recommend an AWESOME fertility doctor in Melbourne? By that I mean someone who is very pro-active, helpful, understanding and maybe most important, CARES about their patients. Someone who actually has time for them.

I want to ask them to do the Post-Coital test as well as the HSG, even though Im coming up to 6 years TTC those are 2 tests I've never had done and its playing on my mind. I'll be doing IVF in the new year and definately want someone who I can trust and have complete faith in.

    Is this an impossible request??

    Thanks!!!

without a doubt Lyndon Hale at MIVF, he is such a kind dr and very pro-active. I had post coital on my second visit. He really seems to care and DH really likes him as well. He doesn't waste any time and is a very calm and positive man.

I had my first pick up this morning with him and am going back on Wed for transfer.

Only thing is that his waiting list is a pain, I waited around 3.5 months but it was worth every second.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, there are a couple of us on here that see Dr Hale and I am sure they will agree with me, one has a gorgeous little boy to show for it too.

PS I didn't have a lap or dye studies as I had this in Feb with my gynea who referred us on to Lyndon as my gynea doesn't specialise in fertility

Thanks Jane, how exciting about your first pickup!!! Do you know how many eggs they got? I'll be praying that the first time's the charm for you. Where does Lyndon work from, ie where are his consulting rooms? I might see when his next appt is...

Jane, if you don't mind, what was the protocol Dr Hale had you on and would you mind telling me about it? I'm so excited and nervous to start, I've heard you have to be so mentally prepared for it, my acupunturist didn't want me to start it right away as she says she's seen how it can really break a person and mentally I wasn't ready yet. But I think I might be by January or Feb... Scared but if it works, how amazing that would be!!

    Thanks!

I don't mind you asking at all. Lyndon works in the Freemasons medical centre, the same building as MIVF, the actual address of his suite is on the MIVF website (well worth having a look at too).

We got 7 eggs yesterday, I did a down reg cycle with microgynon and syneral and then I did a stim cycle with syneral and puregon, I think it's a fairly standard cycle. The down cycle was about a month (from the first day of my last period) and I had a bleed and then had a scan and starting the stim jabs the next day for 8 days then another scan where they worked out if I had responded to the stim drugs. Once they said I had enough follicles I had my trigger shot the following day. So all up if I was to count days from my last proper period I have been going for about 46 days, so it's really 2 cycles, I hope this makes sense. They have a great overview of the cycle on their site as well which will explain much better than I have.

The thing we liked so much about MIVF is their continuity of care. I have seen Lyndon for all my scans, pickup and tomorrow for the transfer. Even though you see different nurses, they are all really nice and always helpful when you ring to ask them things.

With regard to being ready, I am a big believer that the waiting and not doing anything can be much more stressful. I haven't been stressed under Lyndon's care at all. He is very calm and caring and moves along really quickly once you start to see him. If you think Jan or Feb is a good time for you to start and are interested in seeing him I would make an appointment and get a referral organised as he always has a 3 month (minimum) waiting list.

Best of luck and please let me know if you need any clarification on anything I mentioned. Lyndon was recommended to me by my gynea and another member of BB spoke really highly of him as well.

Will fill you in tomorrow on how we went with fertilisation.

    Cheers

Thanks so much for the info Jane. I've looked up his number and might give him a call in the morning. I was worried about the Stimming as I only got 1 follicle on each of my 4 unsuccessful IUI's using Gonal F 112iu (although my doctor was happy with that, I didn't think it gave me any better chance than a normal natural cycle..), but maybe they really up the dosages etc for IVF compared to IUI. Did Dr. Hale say why they prefer 2 day transfers as app. to 3 or 5?

Sorry for all the questions........ ! Its just so nice to talk to someone who has actually been there and can talk from experience.

I'm really holding thumbs for a successful fertilisation and transfer!!! You must be so excited! Good Luck for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane has beat me to it ... I was about to recommend Lyndon as well. I'm a former patient and was very happy with him. He is just as Jane has described. The wait is definitely worth it.

I had the PC test when I first started seeing him too. What I liked about his approach is that he won't do anything that is unnecessary. The treatment is very targeted and precise and no time is wasted. In the 12 months that I was his patient, I had longstanding endo diagnosed and removed and went through one IVF stim cycle which resulted in our son. My (non-medical) opinion is that it was Lyndon's methodology that made the difference.

Best of luck with everything and GOOD LUCK JANE!!

    Hi Janine

Not sure why he does 2 day transfer, I'll ask him that tomorrow. Are you seeing a monash FS at the moment?

Thanks for your kind wishes, I'll keep in touch and let you know how I go.

Good luck, I hope you give him a call, his secretary is lovely as well.

    Cheers

    Jane

PS Melbo is the lovely BB gal with the beautiful baby boy I was telling you about in my previous post

Thanks Jane & Melbo, I gave his office a call and the first available appt is 5th February! So you weren't kidding about the 3 month waiting list. Oh well, thats about the time we were intending to go anyway, it just feels like so far away.

I am currently a patient of Dr Tsaltas, and I know if I continue to see him I'll probably get in sooner... Has anyone used Dr. Tsaltas and had success - does anyone know how he compares to Dr. H?]

Congrats on your little boy Melbo, its so great to hear success stories!!!

Thinking of you today Jane, hope everything is going SUPER WELL!!!

Janine I thought I would let you know that I went through MIVF and found them to be very professional and encouraging. I saw Dr Jim Tsaltas and fell pregnant 1st time and am now 16 weeks pregnant with our little miracle. We went on the Down Reg cycle also and had a 2 day transfer. I think he felt a 2 day transfer was better than a 5 day because the chances of the number of embryo's surviving that process was lower each extended day.

I think I started on 150ml of Gonal injections but after a couple of days they increased to 225ml. I produced 10 eggs.

You have age on your side so I hope that has helped. Jim was reccomended to us by our OB but so was Lyndon Hale. He gave us a few names but I was able to see Jim a little earlier than the others.

Good luck and I hope to hear about your success soon.

Yay, thanks Linda!! Thats very encouraging!! Congrats on your pregnancy, did you put back 1 or 2 embies If I might ask?

I did call both doctors today and can see Jim in December or Lyndon in February... Jim is supposed to call me back tomorrow so I'll see how much time he has for me and what he says he'll do before I decide who to go with.

Thanks so much for all your help!!

Jim's lovely and really looked after DH as well. I was lucky enough to conceive first cycle trying after he got rid of my endo so didn't have to progress to IVF. As I've said to others, all the nurses who looked after me told me they'd go to Jim. If you can get in to see him, I'd say go meet him and see how you both relate to him. You've got to feel comfortable as well as having confidence in all the 'medical stuff'.

    Good luck

    Hi Janine,

They only put one embryo back in and that was enough. I wish you the very best of luck and hope to hear good news soon.

    Lots of Love Linda
