I read an article about lunchboxes in one of the Sydney papers recently.
The nutritionist said the main problem was too many carbs and not enough protein/fruit/veges. People provide sandwiches and then a carb based snack when they should provide one or the other. She also said that it's best to mix fats and protein with carbs because it promotes a longer feeling of fullness. So cheese/meat is good with a sandwich or a pasta salad with beans in it or a roll with meat and salad.
Don't be afraid. If you 'fail' an inspection ask them to provide you with a meal plan for the semester![]()

If my daughter's teachers tried to give me their report from a lunchbox inspection I would tell them where to shove it. That whole notion is a disgrace on so many levels.
Today: 2 zucchini and basil muffins, grapes, banana, muesli bar, 2 slices of strass.
Tomorrow: 1 pork shuumai dumpling, rice ball, cherry tomatoes, snow peas, carrots, vanilla wafer and a giant peach and a boiled egg.
Current freezer stash is: broccoli/corn and tomato/ham mini quiche, zucchini and basil muffins, teriyaki chicken pieces.
Sweets being baked tonight for the freezer: Raspberry/white choc mini cupcakes, sultana/white choc cookies, mango mini cupcakes.
Also on the list so far... prawn and tofu mini burgers, balsamic sesame chicken, pink and orange rice. Totally in love with the Just Bento site!DD is very taken with her egg moulds and her picks, too, so winning!
Rubbish free is annoying. It just means I have to empty the maccas out of its packaging at home.
Olive- yum! DD loves them too![]()
Lol zazou
Lime slice would love your mango mini cupcake recipe if you feel like sharing![]()
Can you pm me too!! Are they reusable? Wonder how you get in to clean them properly?
Ooo DD isn't school age but I feel like I prepare school lunches already with her snacks & lunch. Just found some good use for those ripe bananas and the zucchini & basil muffin sounds great!!
Lots of good ideas! We aren't big sandwich eaters either but dd has asked for one tomorrow along with strawberries, grapes and sultanas. We have a stash of sultana cake in the freezer and I want to make sultana and walnut balls once we know if we can have nuts. Trying to get my head around rubbish free but we try and avoid junky type foods anyway, not sure how cheese would go without being wrapped and I know if I send a spoon for yoghurt it wouldn't come back, normally we use the squeezy tubes when out.
So jealous of all these kiddies that eat good stuff. DS is such a fussy little thing. The only fruit he'll eat are banana's. I'm going to bake some banana cake/loaf type thing tomorrow while he's at school and freeze it for him to take.
Can't even get him to try any other fruit. Sigh.
I put yohurt in the lunchbox frozen. It keeps the other stuff cold.
Ok tomorrow is Tortilla "sushi" with cucumber, cream cheese & ham. Strawberries, grapes, yellow nectarine, crackers, a raspberry & white chocolate muffin, banana custard. I'll take a pic once the raspberry muffins are cooledWhy is it that my kids want "sandwich type things" when I have perfectly good yummies made. Hmpf.
