Oh my goodness they put dye in dried apricots? Ick! Don't they need to label that?
No. They don't put dye in them. Sulphites stop dried fruit from changing colour which is why they are used as a preservative.
Look for E numbers or a small notice saying "may contain sulphur/sulphites"
    E150b Caustic sulphite caramel
    E150d Sulphite ammonia caramel
    E220 Sulfur dioxide
    E221 Sodium sulphite
E222 Sodium bisulphite (sodium hydrogen sulphite)
    E223 Sodium metabisulphite
    E224 Potassium metabisulphite
    E225 Potassium sulphite
    E226 Calcium sulphite
    E227 Calcium hydrogen sulphite (preservative)
    E228 Potassium hydrogen sulphite

ETA - apparently DS1 shared his fruit with his friend because he didn't have any. This was a pretty common occurrence last year too. So now I'm going to have to pack extra so DS gets enough. His Mum gives him all sorts of highly flavoured packaged foods and he trades them with DS for fruit and popcorn lol.
