Formula, Solids and water... Need a reminder please...

Right, it seems I have forgotten everything.... So just after a reminder on a few basics...

DS is 6mo... and he is now fully FF. He is not a huge drinker maybe having between 120 - 180ml feeds on demand through the day. He probably drink about 1L of ff over 24 hrs.

We have started solids this week, and am planning on doing a combination of BLS and a bit of mashed foods. DS is Mr Independent, and loves to hold his own bottle, and spoon, and is reaching for food from my plate, so I really want to encourage this.

But I am not sure how to go about this. We did puréed food only with DS1... And he didnt hold a spoon till he was well over one...

I assume it is like with BF as in food is fun till they are one? And will continue with bottles before food. But want about cups of water? When should I introduce these??? He drinks his ff from a sippy cup, but I want him to drink water from one too...

Um, I am sure there is more but I need to go now, DS1 is after me... Apparently I need to be a racing car driver.... TIA...xo

Yup food is fun until they're one - no matter if they are BF or FF

As for us here - we gave Eden water in her sippy cup with her meals, and during the day if she looks like she is thirsty (usually when grizzling and we're not sure, we'll give her water and she normally takes it).

We do BLS here so I just give her a bit of food when the other kids have their main meals. If she eats it, fine, if not - thats all good too. With yoghurt (the only spoon stuff she has) I load up the spoon and she puts it in her own mouth. Then when she's finished whats on there, I load it up and she grabs it again - its messy, but fun

only just saw this thread it may be a bit late but oh well...

we started DD on BLS at about 6 months, she is fully FF too. by about 9 months she stopped putting on weight so i began giving her mashed stuff too but it was good caus she'd been doing BLS for a few months so could handle quite chunky food iykwim? so then id give her her BLS meal and if she hadnt eaten much (usually gummed it and threw it on the floor) id offer some mashed stuff too... seems to work well even now...

as for water, i taught her to use a sippy cup and hold it herslef at 9 months and i just have it within arms reach qhenever shes awake and she just helps herself... HTH
