Thankyou Yael, we are trying to avoid the tubes too, she has had the tube feeding before but not due to her weight due to her coming out of induced coma back in August. It did nothing for her then and I cant see it helping her now. The pead thinks the same, but I am worried if he sends us to the childrens hospital they may suggest it. I am really hoping the pediasure helps with the weight. They are using her length for the weight she should be which is at a 6mth old weight. I have never heard of the hens supplement. I am sure they called it something different when they were giving the tube feeds in hospital.
V is having the pediasure with cows milk, which we were told to do by her dietician. The only problem is, you make it with 190ml milk the the pediasure, and she will be lucky to drink 100ml, sometimes only 50ml. She will have upto about 400ml in a day. So not really that much especially when she isnt eating.
Sorry you have had to see your little baby like that, it is very heartbreaking. I am glad things seem to be going well atm, I hope this 2mth trial proves that she can put on weight on her own. My fingers are crossed and I it all works out fine. I am so very sorry you have had to go though what you have, your poor little girl. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Beema - Thankyou for the PM, I had a look at that website, and what people had mentioned about pediasure, it helped somewhat reading the similar reactions,such as turning off food. One had mentioned that once used to it they start eating again, so fingers crossed that happens. Thankyou again hun.

I will try to PM you tonight or tomorrow with a bit more information about the stuff we used. Google Calogen by Nutrica, that is the only thing that really packed on the weight for my daughter. 100g a week when we were using it a lot!
Just had her weighed today - she put on 80g in 35 days. I know they said no weight gain, or any loss and they will do more surgery, byt 80g isn't much for 5 weeks either.. i'm so worried we will head down the path of her weight plateuing, and it just takes a long time to see it on the graph, a few months, which is a long time not to be growing for my little one
Yael - Sorry to hear about your little girls weight gain, I know it isnt much weight to put on, but gee I hope they dont go down the surgery path again. I understand how worried you are. Its scarey stuff. May I ask how much she weighs now?
Is your DD growing in length, do they measure that? As for V they are going by her length and looking at the graph in the blue book and using the middle line in the graph showing her length. They then use that to work out how much weight she should be. For her length she is showing as a 6mth old, yet her weight is around 1kg plus under the weight for the 6mth old.
I am really hoping that this weight piles on for her, as I am not sure how my DH will take the news if they want her to do tests etc. He wants them to leave her alone, she is perfect in his eyes, just little. She is perfect in my eyes too, but I am the one that the is taking her to all the DR's appt's and hears their concerns and have to relay them back to him. He has told me already he doesnt want them testing on her. She has already been through so much in her short life.
I truly hope your DD shows the Dr's that she can put on weight without anymore surgery. I am so sorry again you are going through this, it truly is heartbreaking.

HI Csab. The problem with that though is if there is an underlying medical condition that can be treated, then she needs to have all the tests done, even though it would be breaking your heart to have to do it. I really hope that this works for her and that she is soon gaining weight nicely
Trillian - If she needs to have them done, then we will definately have them done, but only if it needs to be. The problem is the DR's have kept telling me that my bub could possibly have a chromosome problem, they were looking into Noonans syndrome. I kept telling them that she doesnt and that all of her features are from different parts of the family. They have been monitoring her since she was born. They have started to see that she doesnt have what they thought she did. I just dont want them using her as a guniea pig trying to find something wrong when their isnt iykwim.
She has always been a small bub, and takes forever to gain weight, but when she got very sick, she lost weight too quickly, so once she was recovering she had alot more weight to gain to get back to where she started before she got sick. So that took some time. They seem to keep forgetting that set back.
I have done everything the DR's have wanted in relation to her, as I want them to see for themselves how perfect she really is.
She is a happy little girl and does everything she is meant to for her age. I guess I just wish this would all end with them being happy with her for once. Ive seen her fight for life, and I have seen how scared she was of DR's/Nurses after that too. It took ages for her to start to relax around her pead too. I am so worried they will put the feeding tubes in, as it didnt do her any favours last time. She didnt gain any weight, and was craving her bottle and food. Her pead is also not wanting them to tube feed her.
Thankfully she has built up some fat on her thighs and she keeps rubbing her belly as her belly is a bit more chubbier too. So I really do hope this works.

I was just wondering if V was considered SGA *Small for Gestational Age) or IUGR (Inuterine Growth Restriction) when she was born as I think she was around the same size as DD (2350grams), but DD was a 33 weeker so she was within the average weight for her gestation? The reason why I am asking is that I was chatting with one of my prem friends (IRL) and her little boy was IUGR. They have recently gone to see a new Paed as they felt they weren't connecting with their old one and when he did an assessment on LG, and he looked at his weight (less than 7kg at over 2 years of age), eating habits etc (he pretty much only eats mushie foods), and what he actually said that SGA and IUGR bubs actually have less cells within their bodies when they are born. This means that there are less cells devoted to putting on fat, so that it is unlikely that he will ever be a big boy, and that not to worry about what types of food he is eating, that as he gets older you will be able to reason and discuss with him about different foods and textures, and introduce them that way.
I am not sure if that is relevant for you and V or not but it was really interesting information, and I have quite a few friends who have SGA and IUGR bubs and I don't know any of them that are actually big bubbs/toddlers now, they are all quite petite, so the information our friends new Paed disucssed seems to make sense to me.
She sounds like she is doing wonderfully with her milestones, which is a great sign. Quick weight loss when sick is also so disheartening, after waiting so long for that weight to go on and to see it just go so quickly is heartbreaking. It took N quite a while to catch hers back up from her first hosy stay, we were lucky that her other visits and stays she wasn't as ill, we were treating her quicker and the impact was less.
