Mention it to the doctor just in case......but eating sugar lifts you up and then lets you down and you need more....
Here is my personal opinion on artificial sweetners......bearing in mind this is what makes sense to me.....
OK - there is no sugar in artificial sweetners but your body doesn't know that. Digestion works on a simple lock and key system. Food (a lock) needs enzymes (a key) for digestion. These enzymes are specific just like locks and keys - one enzyme only works on one lock.....
Now, when you eat sugar (real or artificial), the sweetness sends a message to the brain which sends a msg to the pancreas......hey, pancreas.......get some insulin into the blood and get the sugar out of the blood as more is coming in......don't want the sugar to get too high - would have adverse effects on this body.....
So the panceas releases the insulin......and the sugar is moved from the blood to the cells.......and eventually the body finds there is no real sugar around.....the artificial sweetner gets into the blood but there are no enzymes to to unlock the sweetner and so it passes throu thr body - which is why some say excess consumption will give you the ****s.....you can't digest it.
In the meantime, your body starts to react to the low blood sugar, you really crave sugar, you get the shakes etc and the body shouts up to the brain.....hey brain, you said there was sugar, where is it, we're dying down here.......the brain of course, is now confused as it knew there was sugar there - it tasted it......so it starts the cravings......
And then you eat sugar for real so your body can get back in balance.
as I said, my theory I put together 10 years ago......unproven but loical and explains why people buy diet cokes and mars bars............
