Thanks girls.
Nic: Just the 1 injection at this stage to determine what's wrong by taking a scan that is able to take a picture of where the radioactive stuff settles. If it settles in a particular area/s that's where the overactive part of my thyroid is. I don't have a goiter (swollen throat) so they can tell it's not all affected, just an area (they call them nodules) so they need to see exactly where. If I had trouble swallowing then that would indicate that it was near the esophagus but I don't have any problem with that either. If the doctor sees that I have an overactive area (he most likely will) then he will medicate me with tablets that (I think) have harrowing side affects.
Lea: thanksI think mine will come and go too. I think factors like stress and over activity (chasing my toddler) make it worse and once I wean and he grows older (less chasing) then I think it will settle back to normal. If you start to feel feverish then I'd get yourself to a hospital quick fast though. My doctor says I am sailing very close to a 'thyroid storm' meaning a total meltdown... you overheat, get heart palpitations and feel disorientated... it can be very dangerous. I'd keep an eye on it.
RH: My doctor had never heard of any natural therapies and i could tell he wasn't interested. He said it was too dangerous to start trying that kind of thing. I'll get this test done tomorrow then maybe seek another opinion. It's so weird to be told you are so sick when all you feel is tired and struggle with the heat. So many people must be living in ignorance that they have it. I think DH thought I was just being wussy during our last hot spell. I swear it felt like 40 when it was only 32'C. As you know I have been subjected to a lot of heat in my life (living in hot places)... i can put up with a fair bit... but the last few years have really seen me suffer. It's different to just feeling hot... I feel all fuzzy headed, just can't think straight, have shortness of breath (heart working too hard), it's just awful. Thing is I don't actually sweat much like you are meant to with Hyperthyroidism... so that makes me feel even hotter!
Better go find my toddler....
