So my poor ds2 broke his arms today problem is its the 2nd time in 4 months. Different arm, different spots. Both happened from fairly minor falls. Both were non displaced fractures. Dh thinks its all just a coincidence but I am starting to worry that his bone density is pretty low. He is dairy intolerant. He eats a bit of cheese because he can tolerate that but I don't think he's getting enough calcium. Should I look into a supplement? Should I be getting his bone strength checked?
I would be visiting your GP and discussing your concerns. Two fractures, both from minor mechanisms, is unusual and whilst it may just be bad luck I think it warrants further investigation. What are your DS's teeth like? Often children with poor bone density also have poor quality enamel on their teeth.
Hi hun, I'm sorry you're LO broke his arm I think you should definitely look into it with a doc. My DS is a very fussy eater and I have noticed he doesn't have much dairy products these days. He doesn't like drinking milk, but will eat yogurt & chese sticks, but I'm not sure if that's enough as they are supposed to have 3 serves of dairy per day. I have bought him those gummy things which is the calcium, so I plan to give that to him till we see his paed in 2 weeks who is planning on running a BT on him, as he suspects he's low on iron too (doesn't eat meat much and is terrible with veggies, lentils/beans etc).
I think I would be seeing a GP, given that it is a different arm with the break, and that you mentioned it was from a relatively minor fall. Out of interest did his other arm heal well, and in a good time frame? Not sure if low bone density would impact on the healing of the fractures.
Good Luck for the weeks ahead whilst his arm heals.
Wow so sorry you are going through this again. Something similar happened to a friends dd and she was then investigated by the department because of the two breaks (even though one was at school???!!!) I would suggest going to the dr too at least they can test for a few things so you are able to strengthen any health concerns.
His other arm seemed to heal fairly well it was only a tiny little chip of a break. This one is more of a fracture :/ it was only about a half a metre fall onto chip bark at the playground so not a big fall at all. His teeth look fine, I have not noticed anything wrong with them. He drinks almond milk, a glass or two a day. I think I probably should get it checked. I don't want it to happen again. Loula - I am worried docs are going to show up on my door asking questions. He did them at two different playgrounds and I had other people with me each time so I can explain it. Still break my heart if someone comes around thinking I've been abusing my kids
