I have always lost alot..also read that you lose about 100 strands aday. When I was PG with DD my hair fell out alot more..
Hey All!!
Im just wondering what would be considered 'Normal' hair loss for a woman?? DP is a bit worried at how much hair i seem to lose when washing/brushing/tying up my hair etc. I must admit i do seem to get big clumps of it especially when i wash and brush my hair.
I read about 100 strands per day is the norm...but id say i lose more than that!!
DP vacuumed the bedroom today and said when he emptied it he could fill up a handfull of my hair!!
Im just wondering if its normal to be losing as much as i am?? Its been like this for as long as i can remember, and my hair doesnt seem to be thinning/getting bald patches at all...

Yes, I had load of hair falling out when pg. Clumps and clumps. I was worried enough to phone a dr, and he told me not to worry. Me and DH used to joke about all the hair in the house (german shephard, cat and me)
I can truly agree with Caro - you can look forward to AMAZING hair in your third trimester, but afterwards it do fall out. Mine fell out for six months after pg. Now it's back to just a few strands when I brush or wash.
I would say pretty normal![]()
About 100 hairs a day is average. But if you think about it, 100 foot-long stands from your head is going to look A LOT more than 100 inch-long strands off DH's head. In terms of volume of hair that's 12 times more...

I havnt heard that one but its good.Oh and the other thing is that its reported that Girls Strip their mummies beauty..they steal it inuetero just a old wives tale
Bec- Yeah thats so true..never thought of that.
Hey girls,
Thanks so much for all your replies. Its not really only since ive been preg that it seems to happen, its been like this for, well, since i can remember! Which is why it doesnt worry me so much, but DP is just a bit worried about it. Doesnt want me to go blad, what a sweetie lol.
PMSL if you are concerned maybe say something at the dr's next time but im sure its ok & normal.
Being pregnant changes the natural cycle of shedding - I read that the norm is for the pregnant lady to stop shedding hair, and for all the hair she normally would've lost to fall out after she gives birth (this is certainly what happened to me, I'm forever picking hair off my daughter!), but there are no rules.
