Also it's important to just all an ambulance if you are just too upset to drive. You will only cause an accident if you are distracted by a sick child behind/beside you while driving!
When I woke up in the middle of the night with a 40degree temp after my
Tonsillectomy my parter called the surgeon (paperwork said to call surgeon's emergency number if this happened. She said call an ambulance now. I shook my head at my partner (couldn't speak) cause I didn't want to go in an ambulance.
He rang the hospital and they said to call an ambulance immediately. He gave in and called an ambulance and they said 'nah - just drive her in'
In the end I walked through the front door and they took one look at me and put me straight into a room and let me partner do all the triage out the front while I was already being seen to.
I was in a pretty bad way though
I have only been transported in an ambulance twice, once from a medical centre when I passed out after a blood test (found out I was anemic, and have a Heart Murmur, thankfully neither are serious) and once when I was massively dehydrated and sick and passed out in the shower, on the way out of the bathroom (can't remember getting past the door), managing to leave a big hole in my wall and having severe low blood pressure whenever I sat up, walked or went anywhere close to vertical.
In both cases I went to emergency and still waited a while to be seen after the initial triage nurse taking notes, and a few people taking blood pressure, one putting a drip in about 30 minutes after I arrived then I waited an hour before I saw a real doctor. I have gone in after driving yourself and didn't get let in until half an hour later when I passed out there. Then pretty much the same drill, so I don't think it matters how you get there, it matters how sick you are I guess.
