Swine Flu - if your child was sick and in a swine flu area

Swine flu has been identified as being in my area thanks to the pacific dawn cruise ship. Anyway DS and I both have a nasty virus, DS is vomiting and has the runs,is hot then cold, same as normal flu symptoms really. But if it was you, would you take yourselves to get tested for swine flu?.

Yes. I wouldn't even hesitate in taking the girls to the dr, or a swine flu clinic (place thingy).

the symptoms of swine flu are the same as the normal flu..it is still a flu just a very contageous one. if swine flu wasn't around would you still take your son to the drs with these symptoms? you need to do what makes you comfortable and it is obviously concerning you so maybe you should take him..although it may pay to call the clinic first and get some advise so that it doesn't spread more...keeping up his fluids is important and monitoring his temperature and making him comfortable. Swine flu (and any flu for that matter) is a problem in the very young and the very old...in the healthy person it shouldn't pose a life threatening risk...it is just a flu. because it is so contageous though it would be worth getting it checked out for the safety of others also. good luck and i hope you and your DS feel better soon.

There is another thread along these lines you might be interested in having a look at: http://forums.bellybelly.com.au/foru...flu-303-a.html

After reading through the thread I have linked here, I would say definitely go and get checked out.

Hope you and DS are feeling better soon!

My DD1 has it so I would say yes! If only for the reason that you will know for sure.

What are the signs and symptoms of swine flu in humans?

Symptoms of swine flu in humans are similar to that of the regular flu, including fever, cough, sore throat, aching body, headache, chills, fatigue, diarrhoea and vomiting. Severe illness including pneumonia and respiratory failure have been reported as being caused by swine flu in people. The virus may heighten the severity of underlying chronic medical conditions, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I think I’ve got swine flu, what should I do?

Contact your health care provider if you are worried about your symptoms and if you live in areas where swine flu cases have been identified. If you are sick you should stay home and avoid contact with other people as much as possible to avoid spreading your illness, according to the CDC.

Adults who experience these warning signs should seek urgent medical attention:

•Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
•Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
    •Severe or persistent vomiting
    •Sudden dizziness
    •Confusion
Children who experience these warning signs should seek urgent medical attention:

    •Fast breathing or trouble breathing
    •Bluish skin colour
•Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
•Not waking up or not interacting
•Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
    •Not drinking enough fluids
    •Fever with a rash

Thanks, we aren't in melbourne we are in nsw. The main thing that is worrying me is that DS has developed stomach pain and vomiting and hasn't eaten in 24hrs. He doesn't normally get vomiting with a flu virus. He doesn't have a temp, but feels hot. I am going to ring health direct and see what they say .

BTW, I don't see swine flu as "just a flu", it has the potential to mutate with the normal flu which peaks in july and kill a lot of people, this is why they are quarantining people.

A lot of schools are telling children to stay home with even the sniffles, which isn't normal so I would say yes to be on the same side get tested.
