DS has co-slept with us from birth - it wasn't planned that way and now DF and I don't want to put him in his own bed because we'll miss him ...LOL
BUT.....
Since he has started rolling on the floor at night he kicks the doona off him and normally me in the process and sometimes I wake up to find him lying horizontally across the bed instead of vertically...and at 70cm's he's not little....
What very very little amount of sleep I was getting inbetween our 5 feeds a night is now completely out the window as he's wriggling and kicking so much.
Does this settle down or is it time for me to put the cot together???
Oh tell me about the horizontal lying! Even in a king bed i mange to be pushed right to the edge by little miss I-need-the-most-room! Jazz is in a cot now, mostly, and comes into our bed somewhere between 1 and 3, whenever she wakes during that time.
We did a side-car type setup, and it worked the best for us. I wasn't ready to stop co-sleeping, but I needed to sleep in between feeds! It worked until she started crawling properly, then she'd just crawl over me to get to the middle! So she's in the cot now mostly. Maybe a side-car is something that might work?
We had a side car set up too. But we changed it to our queen sized matress on the floor with the cot matress on next to us also on the floor, saves DS falling out of the bed if he crawls around! And gives us all enough room.
Hmmm... we had a matress ina water bed frame until we moved here in Jan (we had a waterbed until i couldn't get out of it when I was pregnant hehehehehe).
Anyway, I jsut put the cot up to the side of the bed, take of the drop-down side, and any gaps i put my pregnancy pillow between the cot and the matress/bed, stuff it down so it was a really snug fit... Our largest gap was a few cms though, I don't think it would work with a HUGE gap. You could see if it levels up on the lowest base setting? I found if the cot/base was a little bit higher than our mattress worked a bit better.
Anyway, I'm sure they don't recommend it like that but it worked for us.
LOL my DD does this too - STILL! I laugh because she kicks DP in the face during the night! A few days, she woke up coughing, sat up and coughed up a big blob of phelgm on his face. ROFL! Anyway, My bed is quite low too so I put DD in a toddler bed and pushed it next to mine(shes a bit older than your bub though so I'm not sure it would work for you. She *used* to sleep in it, in fact she slept much better than in my bed, but she's changed her mind again and is back with us.
Harry still ends up lying horizontally. He's 3. I believe he does it because then he is touching both mummy and daddy. We too have put his toddler bed up in our room and are currently at the stage where I get him to sleep and then put him in bed. Hoping this means that when Phe comes along he will understand that his place is in his bed. But damn I do miss having him next to me. Even if you go the cot, have it right next to the bed. It might be enough comfort for him having you so close.
At 4mo though, I have this LARGE wrap so I could keep them swaddled, thus in exactly the spot I wanted them to still be laying in. Its when they wont keep the wrap on this trouble starts and sadly, I've not yet found a cure for side winding.
