Angel, I don't think he needs time away from you. My first son would cling to me all the time, especially when visitors were over, and he wouldn't do anything on his own at playgroup. Then all of a sudden when he could walk on his own, the world was way too interesting to stick with mum. I think the fact that he knew I was there when he needed me gave him the confidence to go and do his own thing.
Now my second son clings to me just as much as the first. Family like to blame me of course, but it's easier second time around, because I know I am doing the right thing by being there for him. Actually the last two times at playgroup I turned around and couldn't see him at all. He had crawled away. I had a quick panic until I found him. Looks like he's getting his confidence now and doesn't want to stick with boring old mum LOL.
While my little one isn't as old as Kynan yet I don't particularly feel the need to leave her with anyone and I'm not sure when I will! So far she hasn't been away from me since she's been born...
I didn't expect to have such strong feelings, but there's only two people who are nearby that I'd trust to care for her atm, DP and my best friend. Until a situation comes up that means I have to leave her I'm not going to...
I already take her along to meet with other mums and bubs at least once a week so I figure once she's old enough to notice she'll be getting plenty of socialisation.
I would say you know your little boy better than anyone and you should do whatever feels right. I don't think upsetting him and yourself is worth it to just 'get him used to you leaving him'.
If my baby was that upset and startled then I'd be even less inclined to leave him/her. How horrible trying to put that pressure on you when clearly your baby nor you are not ready.
Angel I think you are doing a wonderful job instinctively doing what you are doing with Kynan. So many people feel that they have good advice but we have to pick and choose what is right with us as parents. I have not left Sammy with anyone and for the first time Saturday actually ventured out leaving DH with him...it felt so weird. We dont tend to do anything that we cant include Sammy and the girls in anyway. Different people though have different needs. My brother and his partner were leaving their baby daughter overnight with my mum from 6 weeks..same as my BIL..they actually went away for a weekend! When you are ready to leave Kynan then Im sure you will know and it will be right for both of you.
