Try PMing Christy - I'm pretty sure she's done it.
DH and I are interested in doing this program as I've heard good things and we are quite frankly sick of the sound of our own voices atm with a 3yo and a 1yo and zero family support.
Has anyone done this in Brisbane and if so, can you tell me where. I have been through the referral numbers on the Triple P site but their directory is VERY out of date and I can't get hold of anyone on it.
Thanks ...in desperation....![]()

Yep Christy did a Triple P Program![]()
i know on the Gold Coast the salvation army runs courses, maybe give them a call in BNE to see they offer this service aswell..
Have you tried contacting your local Community Health Service? They might be able to put you in contact with someone?
HelloI did the Triple P parenting independant course through my MCHN office. Alot of the places have social workers or child psychologists who work with families and can tailor program it to your child. There is a waiting list, but for us it was definately worth it. For one, it showed that we were on the right track, but could refine some of what we did. We found Matilda responded to some of it really well. Through that we found that some of Matilda's behaviours were abnormal and were able to start a journey of finding out what is causing some behaviour problems for her.
But we use those skills we've learned for Jovie as well & have found our house to be a much happier & less stressed place to be.
I know that at Mt Gravat there is a YCHN? Something like that which runs Triple P. I found out about mine by phoning my MCHN and found there is someone in Cleveland & Wynnum who travels between the two. The group courses are good as well & going through the same things, but I found the independant family consultations better.
Thanks Christy
I've never been near a MCHN but I phoned the one in Coorparoo this afternoon and they're getting back to me. I was also pointed towards a Triple P program at UQ but there's a 14 week waitI really don't know if we can hang on that long before we even start doing something kwim.
I also called a few psychologists so will consider that option as well.
I guess the problem isnt' so much a behavioural issue with either of the kids - I'm pretty sure they're normal lol - but DH and I are more having trouble coping and just finding ourselves yelling alot more than we should be at both them and eachother. We just need something to give us the skills to manage them without having to resort to extremes to get the behaviour we want from them. Not ever getting a break is really starting to come into play as well - we're at a point where we wake up dreading the day because we know it'll just be more of the same...
Sorry I'm rambling had a bad day![]()
Tobily,
Did you ever go and do this course? I'm just looking into doing something to help my parenting skills - or my lack thereof - because it feels like I'm constantly yelling at DS... and I'm sure he doesn't MEAN to be the evil child I think he is.. lol
Check the Triple P website as well, they have on there places you can go to get some help. It helped us heaps.
Yeah I'm on there at the moment christy.. just wondering if the self help aids are any good?
Or call a 'Child and Youth Mental Health' place and they should be able to tell you where one is.
Another programme to consider is the "three choices" parenting programme.
It's fantastic!
It's a combination of the 123 magic programme (time-out programme which encourages parents to use 'less talk and less emotion'); emotion coaching (which is about helping kids deal with some of their tough feelings) and "doing nothing" (for the times when the best thing to do is ignore the behaviour).
If you google "parentshop", you can find out information on who the 'three choices' practitioners are in your state
Good luck!!!
Thanks Monnie
Are any BB members interested in going to one of these courses with me? The only example of parenting I have seen isn't good and I am a bit stuck about what to do.
oscaroscar, where are you? I agree its good to have someone come with you as well. We did independant consultations which meant DH, Matilda & I went together.
ive done it , in ipswich .. i was only on the wait list for about 1 month as my case was "serious" lol !!
but i have friends on the wait list till next year ...
I did it through my health plaza ... i found some of the skills they teach (planned ignoring) invaluble , others were directed at older kids ... but you get books and info which is great and i would do it agian because i cant remember much seeing as i was pg ...
I am in inner west Brissie, near UQ.
Wow UQ is the headquarters for Triple P !! Thats where Matt Saunders is located & that would be a great place to go. I hope you can get someone to go with you![]()
