Hi Crums, sorry to hear your in the same boat as us :/

I don't know if having a high 2 hour post GTT test is an indicator of how you will do with your diet. As I only got a 9 two hour post drink with the GTT test and I ended up on insulin. It's really different for everyone, I can eat some foods that would send other people's bsls through the roof. Yet I have a banana or peach and mine sky rocket. Some people can't eat carbs with alot of sugars, or fruits because of the sugars..and sugar in general like icecream and lollies. It's very hit and miss and it's taken me since the 20th of December to stabilize my sugars, even with insulin and good dieting. I was put on the insulin because my diet wasn't working and I was basically starving myself to get the levels they wanted. In actual fact the injecting of insulin doesn't hurt me at all, it's less painful than the finger prigging I do 4 times a day. I was terrified of being put on insulin, it seems to be more common nowadays to get you on the insulin quicker and some docs (i've heard in the last few weeks) will put some preggy women on insulin as soon as they get a positive GTT.

Good luck with your tests and stuff in the next few days/weeks, I'm always popping in so I can offer you all of my experience with GD, even if you probably know alot of it already being in the medicine field yourself There is alot of support here so ask any questions you have.

I was kinda hoping they would induce me due to my sugar levels for this pregnancy but it was really only so I could hold my daughter sooner. But altho my levels were high it's done nothing to my daughter's size and I'll be meeting her in 3 weeks via c section..so thats two weeks earlier than expected ... I can't complain

crums - my post GTT reading was around the same but i managed the GD by diet for a number of weeks before going on insulin. i don't think it's an indicator as such because a glucose drink isn't really representative of what a good diet will do to your sugars, more how your body copes with an overload of glucose - if that makes sense? a non-diabetic person will be able to regulate their BSL even with a big does of glucose but with the GD you can't. insulin comes into play when your body can't stabilise your BSL with even a regular diet. i *think* that's right - but obviously i'm not a professional! good luck on monday

linzy - only 3 weeks to go - how exciting!!

Just popping in to see how you are going Krikkit? and Crum?

I just got put on another kind of insulin (now I'm on three kinds) with an extra 2 injections a day (four in total) as my 2 hour breakky and dinner bsls are rising again. My endo told me that my rapid acting insulin isn't rapid enough and isn't bringing my levels down quick enough so he's given me another rapid acting one called Novrapid..it's like a pen and this one actually hurts to inject!

Ah well...and...I will be meeting my little girl on 25th Feb thru c section! The ob measured me and I'm measuring 33 weeks instead of 35, I'm not gaining any more weight and with the diabetes he thinks it's safer to make my c section a little earlier. I'll be 37 weeks and 5 days.. so not too bad, earlier than the 39 that he was originally going to do.

My box of chocolates that I have been collecting (from xmas and now future valentines day from Hubby) is quite BIG..I can't wait to munch on them while I'm recovering!

Hope your all feeling well and staying out of trouble

Hi, Sorry for the delay, had a lovely long weekend away at the in-laws (well I dont think lovely is quiet the word). Anyway!!

Had my little diabetics education class last monday. I didn't find it to be particularly new information. So I started my finger *****ing and testing that night and everything went well. While away had a couple of higher readings over 7. I had a follow-up appointment today and the diabetics educator was impressed with my numbers and thought that as long as I didn't have anymore high numbers I would be able to get away without needing insulin.

However, when I came home today and had a small lunch (left over pasta and a little tub of custard) after 2 hours my reading was 3.7. From what i've seen on the net, this is rather low!! I had a afternoon snack, so i'm hoping that everything has evened out nicely. Have been booked in with the Endochrinologist for the begining of March.

Not really enjoying this limbo each week (as I'm sure no one would) and certainly not enjoying having to remmember what time I ate and what time I have to test!!

    Hi Crums

Wow 3.7 is pretty low!! How did you feel? I start feeling ill at 4.5 specially in the mornings. The diabetes educator and obs I see would definetly have a heart attack of a 3.7. But everyone is different, because I have had the high sugars for months a 4.5 makes me real dizzy and nauseas but I reckon if I was having 7's or 8's maybe a 3.7 wouldn't feel so bad..

Maybe call the diabetes educator and let her know you got a 3.7, I don't know whether all the hospitals have the same blood sugar levels they like to see with their patients but yeah I wouldn't let it get any lower than that.

I had my diabetes ob appointment today and have had my insulin bumped up another 4 units as my morning levels are shocking a small serving of porridge which I was getting a 6, 2 hours later has now crept up to a 10.3 today even with the new rapid working insulin they gave me last week. If it were something sugary they said it would make sense but the ob said he just can't explain why it's still not working so to try extra insulin and 'see how we go' again. Haha ah well I only have another 10 days of injecting myself and then it's all over

I hope you can control your blood sugars Crums with diet alone that would be such a relief! Goodluck with it I may not be on here for the next few days - got a uni assignment to finish before Bottlebrush arrives, but will pop in soon to see how your doing
