Black rose - Im not sure, If it starts hurting in the tummy area I will then ask about the thigh and see what they say. Thankyou
Negrita - Im glad to hear you didnt gain a great deal of weight once on insulin. I have gained apprx 5kg so far, so it will be interesting to see how the weight gain goes by the end of this pgcy. Thankyou too
Well today I did my lunch time one and surprisingly it wasnt that bad, tbh didnt even feel it go in. I actually had to check that it did lol. So onwards and upwards. Thankyou everyone, Im not sure how I would have coped if I didnt have all of your support. hugs
Firstly I must say you are really doing a fantastic job...
I am a dietitian/diabetes educator. More often than not where you inject will be less painful than the blood testing. Choosing sites sometimes is pot luck... You can occassionaly inject into a blood vessel which could result in a little bit of brusing...The tummy is the preferred site because the thigh area has a lot more muscle and if you are active especially if you inject at this spot during the day, it could cause rapid absorption of insulin resulting in low BGLs. If you are going to use the thigh, I would suggest doing it at night.
The reason why your diabetes educator would have said with insulin you would gain weight is because 'insulin is an anabolic hormone' which encourages fat storage. But a lot of this has to also do from the dietary side of things... The thing to remember is the only reason why you are on insulin is because your body is either not making enough &/or its not working as effectively because of resistance from the placental hormones. So you are not on extra insulin but just to replace the one that your body is supposed to be doing... So if you are eating healthy, regularly, there is no reason why you would put on more weight just because of insulin!!!
If you have any questions, I will be more than happy to help... Hope everything goes smoothly for you...
Blackrose - Thats great you lost weight, you must have been doing a wonderful job monitoring your BSL's and food intake. hugs
