DD and I had a lovely 'date' at an indoor playcentre this morning followed by a quick trip to Bunnings. I'm currently enjoying my date with BB (are you girls enjoying it too?!) and I'll probably dine on a scrummy tuna sandwich shortly (which I'll prepare myself). When DD wakes, we'll continue our date at the grocery store. Oh so romantic!

We don't tend to do anything for Valentines day any more but we are going to take DD to the river for a picnic dinner tonight so that will be lovely.

With my PIL...DH works away.
He did get me a pressie of choccies and a card yesterday though - even though we don't usually exchange anything. Guess he feels a bit bad about being away. For us it's just about being together.

I posted a boohoo thread about how much today sucks. Usually dh and I are lovey dovey all through out the year but I'm a romantic and also love to spend some quality romantic time together on valentines day too. BUt this year we aren't getting along so well so there isn't going to be any of that. Instead I changed my ticker while DS was sleeping and I have given him loads of kisses and cuddles xoxo

DH works away and this year his roster has him away, so it's just DD and me.

We don't make a big deal about it here either but when he is home for Valentines I like to cook him a nice dinner.

A trip to the playcentre and bunnings is my girls ideal day out! Although tthey may exchange the tuna sandwich for a vegemite one!

In the 10yrs that DH and I have been together we have celebrated valentines day once. But we both dont subscribe really to this day, tomorrow I will go out and buy the roses that are half price and pretend they are from my lover

But overall today has not being too bad, day at home, both girls a tad sick, but its been good.

They think they have it bad, but have a thought for those whose partners are in hospitality. Like me.

Today, Dh goes to work earlier than normal. Why? Because today he is fully booked, nothing but tables of two. Today he won't be home til midnight.
Tonight all those lucky people who have booked tables, who have got the kids babysat, will have the most amazing meal, consisting of the most gorgeous produce. My Dh is an awesome chef (and thats not being biased either), tonight those lucky people will be treated to an awesome valentines night.

Whilst Im at home eating mac and cheese, which I am sure will involve both girls throwing their food everywhere, the tantrums and demands. But don't worry, today is valentines day, a special day, so I just may join in!

I must admit for the first time in a long time Dh brought me home some flowers last night, which he picked from the rose bushes at his work. he even wrapped them in baking paper!

So how are you spending today?

Sounds just like me. My hubby is a chef too, he had split shifts today and I only got to see him for an hour and a half this afternoon and he won't be home again until 11:30 tonight - by which point our DS and I will be asleep... we won't have any quality time together until his next day off on thursday, and even then DS will still be with us as we have no one around us who can ever babysit for us.

I really shouldn't complain, but when you or your other half works in hospitality and has to work on valentines day it does make it really hard to celebrate your love for eahc other properly.

I spent the day at home with DD, she smiled twice today!!
I made choc chip cupcakes for DH, iced them pink and spelt out "I love you" on them... I sent him a txt this morning too.

He went to the shops on the way home from work to get an ingredient for dinner cause I am making him a lamb roast with roast veggies (his favorite...and I don't eat red meat at all so that's pretty special!!) and I was hoping he might think "I will get her a bunch of flowers to spoil her" but no, he comes home with nothing... didn't reply to my txt... and then when he saw the cupcakes said he felt bad cause he didn't do anything for me,

I want him to do something that he thought of himself iykwim.. I want him to want to spoil me, who cares if I don't do anything in return, a bunch of flowers would have been amazing. It makes me sad. I know he loves me and he tells me all the time! I just want him to go out of his way to make me feel special... oh well.

Dh came home last night and said "oh f*** I forgot to pick up your roses. I ordered and paid for them at the florist on Friday to pick up and I forgot. I was in a zone on the way home"

He rang the florist (it's 15 min away) and explained. They put them in the cool room for him to get today. I have an amazing (although silly) loving hubby

Sorry girls... But I have to say it.

Why is it that valentines day is needed as an "excuse" to celebrate your live for your partner? And visa versa? When the mood strikes you, just do it!!

I definately couldnt agree more!

I do think it is an over-rated day, and personally I have never minded not celebrating the day.

Actually yesterday was a normal day for us here, although by the end of the day my car had cost me $300 for rego, unexpectedly too! So for the rest of this pay period we are short! :/

I just opened this thread because it was in the 'Holiday Celebrations' section and I was wondering - what celebration/holiday was yesterday?

Completely forgot that yesterday was valentine's day - at least some of those FB statuses I read yesterday make sense now

Come to think of it, I even posted in another thread about someone's valentine's day and I still didn't click - serious baby brain!

So my answer would be - no different to any other day. My mum came over to help me look after our kids (as I am still recovering from a c/section) while DH went to the doctor for a consultation and to book his procedure for a vasectomy ...
