depending on what displays are on, and how involved your kids are with stuff like that, questacon might be more than a half day outing too. i would probably be going to the snow, seeing how long you stay there, then finish the day at questacon (and if you spend longer at the snow, you can do questacon on sunday)
am picking my brain for things i've done that are kid friendly!
there's the dinosaur museum (i think) out near ****ington green
the museum
aquarium and zoo
depending on how happy the kidlets are later in the day, a trip to the telstra tower is pretty cool. the museum underneath is a bit in depth, but looking over the city at night is pretty cool. mount ainsley is the other lookout - you look straight out over war memorial and parliament house - awesome at night (i was 17 when i moved to canberra - lots of night stuff - slept all day!)
i was thinking that garden might be boring. Ok, so thats off the list.
I am thinking Evan is the only one who will get anythign out of Questacon so we will just follow him around LOL. I plan to leave as early as possible on Friday & have a good 4 or 5 hours left to do that in the afternoon.
I remember going up the telstra tower. Don't think its something my kids would get a kick out of though.
The Dino Museum might be a hit.
Also going to go into the national Library. DH being a Librarian & all not really something he will walk past with out going in.
I figure if we leave the whole day (saturday) for the snow seems its 2/3 hours from Canberra. That way we can make our way there, play & head back with no stress of making it back intime to fit something else in.
Chances are we will leave sometime Sunday to be home Sunday PM. If we do that I would want to be leaving the ACT by no later then say 2pm. School/work the next day soooo...
Don't realy think the Zoo or Aquarium will be on the list, we can(and have) do that in sydney & well, a fish is a fish & an a lion is a lion no matter what zoo etc you see it in & personally I think thats rather boring LOL. Last time we went to the Zoo Evan wanted to leave 10 minutes after arriving. he was bored as.
So as for a place to stay, just driving around & stopping at the first decent motel we see isn't a good idea? Trust us to plan it on a weekend that is booked out!
I don't care where we stay as long as its clean & not too far away from stuff. I don't mind say 30 mintues out.
I would call one of the motels in Quenbeyan then and see if they have any vacancies. There is no way i would leave it until the day at this time of year.
the war museum has some kid interaction areas these days that allows them to play in and show the kids what it was like for those in the war eg (inside of submarine, inside the trenches, a helicpoter etc..... from memory its downstairs and kept our kids busy for a while - not a whole day thing - we had a three year old, one year old and 8 year old and all were happy.
questacon has a baby/little kids zone as well as all the other floors. Again our almost 4 and 1 year old loved the place even though a lot was over their heads from a science point of view - the fact they could touch and watch and play kept them happy for a fair while.
