    Anyone else have this problem?

I have a problem with spending money on myself. I can go and buy $500 on my kids or DH but i can't justify it on myself.

Most of my clothes are all too big because i can't bring myself to buy anything. My hair looks horrid since giving birth but i just cant spend the money to fix it. Yet this week i have spent about $200 on cloth nappies for Orson and about $200 on clothing for the kids.

ARGH what is wrong with me! why can't i do it?

Anthia, I too have this problem and I bet the majority of mums will too. I dont know why it is, I guess we just put everyone else before ourselves.

yep - I'm the same. Most of our clothing budget goes on the kids.. and DH got himself some new suits a while ago. Me.... I'll be digging up my old winter gear for this season.

Admittedly I did spend a lot on maternity gear.. but that was kind of a necessity. And I have had the odd shopping spree after bub simply coz nothing fit.. but in general.. no, I don't spend money on myself.

And when asked what present I want for an anniversary or something, I can never think of anything for myself.. it's always something practical. Altho I'm a bit excited I've come up with something I want this year haha. I'm struggling with justifying the money tho

Wow! You ladies must be every husband's dream...
Whenever I say something like "Sweety... I hope you don't mind but..."
to DH he comes back with "*Sigh* What have you bought?..."
You are dreamboats. I need to take a leaf or two from your books.
Don't feel guilty, you've earned it!

Oh i'm another one who will quite happily go and spend a few hundred on the kids or DH but always think twice sometimes three times before i will buy something for myself ....actually last time my DH told me to go buy myself some new clothes/bra's etc as i was long over due. i think for me i fee lquilty because i dont feel i contribute to the household as far as bringing in or earning $$$$ go as i am a full time sahm and feel i shouldn't be spending all that money on me...iywikm?

Yup, I feel bad about not bringing in any of the cash to pay for stuff for myself.

I doubt that my husband would agree there! lol

yep i never spend money on myself.
when i was working up until 3 weeks ago i was only making about 300 a week and after spending 200 on groceries and bills and savings for the baby the only thing id spend on is lunch at work...and still have money left over at the end of every week...which ****ed DP off to no end...he makes twice as much and has about 200 left to fritter on whatever he wants, he spends the whole lot and often puts his account into overdraft and hasnt put $1 into our 'joint' baby savings account.

so glad he doesnt have a credit card!

Yeah I'm the same...and we don't have kids just yet! Lol. My hair hasn't been cut for probably almost 12 months...if not more than 12 months DF keeps telling me to go and get it cut, but I just can't justify spending $80 on a haircut for myself!
I rarely buy clothes for myself too...unless I really really need something..or I buy cheap clothes off ebay, I hate spending $20 on a piece of clothing when that is pretty much the norm these days! I think I'm just stingy when it comes to spending money on me

This is exactly how I feel. Even my partner was only able to convince me to buy a Nappy Bag when I said it could be my Mother's Day gift. I don't even really feel comfortable buying things for DD -- I wanted a sling for when I do quick trips to the supermarket, previously I have just been holding her and the basket and trying to make it work. It really is something we could use/need and we can afford it easily but I feel so guilty still -- my partner had to order it while I was sleeping because I refused to let him buy it.

It just doesn't feel like the money is ours and it is hard going from having my own job and source of income to relying on his. I know I am providing by taking care of our newborn but I just have a lot of trouble with it all still.

I do exactly the same! I need new shoes because walking the kids to school everyday has worn holes in mine. I go into the shop and end up walking out because I can't bring myself to buy cheap ones but I can't buy the more exxy ones either cos I get the guilts
