We are shopping for a mattress too at the mo. I'd say tempur would be less safe than a regular spring mattress because of the heat factor. Does latex heat up too?

If you're worried about toxins, memory foam is the most toxic mattress you can get. I would never cosleep on one.

We have a latex mattress and it's heaven. It's a big piece of natural latex wrapped in a wool layer for fire retardant (check to find out if they use a chemical fire retardant). So comfy! It doesn't heat up or have dips or anything unsafe. It's a very smooth sleep surface.

If you are concerned about the health aspect I would not go for memory foam at all. I recently researched all of this for our family and Latex/Wool combo is by far the best health and comfort wise... price wise though a bit more exy, but worth the cost of health for me.
