Just reading through this thread realising how much things are going to *hopefully* going to change in the next 12 months......
Currently our only big expenses are the house we are building, cars, phone and................our cats............. I just realised I spend about $300 a month on the cats!..... and now we are getting a puppy.....how can I not have realised I was spending that much! and that doesnt even include any random vet bills, toys etc I come up against regularly.
Savings
Skiing
Holidays
Extra-curricula activities for the boys
Books
Clothes/shoes
Groceries
Petrol/servicing etc
Golf
Gym memberships
Eating out
Vet bills
Our kids are pretty spoiled too... They have lots of nice clothes - but I buy on sale and look for bargains.
I used to buy lots for myself but I am awkwardly between sizes so no buying for me.
DH's splurge is scuba diving magazines. They are between $10-20 each.
But we haven't splurged in a while. We're going to Sea World soon (YAY us) and will probably splurge on some souvenirs, meals and extras at Sea World.
Hair used to be a big one but I've changed hairdressers.
DH is really worried about the global financial situation and the impact if we had another bub so we're trying to be smart and get money onto the mortgage.
Have to say I'm really impressed at how many people have accounts for their kids. Good idea. We should do that.
Mortgage (we *try* to pay a bit extra too)
Food
Bills
Savings (ours + DS)
Travel to UK (i'm from there originally and try to get back once a year)
Car servicing/rego/petrol etc
Health insurance
Extra into mine + DH's super
DH's cricket match fees + beer money
haircut for me every 3 months
any left over will either go into savings or pay extra off the mortgage
Me + DH are pretty low maintenance and can get by pretty well on not much money (fortunately). I'm not a good clothes shopper and hate going so don't really buy much for myself & DH is the same.
Rent 600
Childcare 300
Trains 120
Petrol 140
Dd savings 25
Dh car finance
Our wedding loan
Extra 100 on tax (so we get a nice pay out come tax time and usually put a lump sum into buying a new suit and shoes for dh and then put lump sums onto loans or into a bills account so when rego etc comes around we can pay for it oh and uni - books $500 hecs payments etc)
Dd swimming and dance - 265 a term
I put $25 each on electricity and gas bills so we don't get hit too hard at bill time and $10 on water a f/n
Anything left over is put away, we splurge on a new DVD or start buying bday/Xmas presents and put them away dds bday is in June and I have all but her big present - I even have started buying things for her pink princess dessert table like princess water bottle labels - vintage style party bags etc.
I tend to think ahead a little too much - ill just be glad when the loans are paid we lost a lot of our savings when I got sick and couldn't work.
Apart from the usual bills, my biggest spending at the moment are ANYTHING for DD. clothes, toys, misc bits of furniture that we seem to need for her. Online shopping = baaad!!

We have just bought me a small car and moved house, so atm all our money is going on paying that off! Although given we've only lived here a week and have already bought new essentials, things aren't so bad. We'll be non-mortgage/non-student debt-free again in a couple of months. But we can't afford to over-pay the mortgage any more, we were pretty much doubling our payments before we moved. And still paying less than we are now.
Then, of course, I'll be getting a hair cut and looking at holidays! I want to go away on a huge in-law family holiday for MiL's big birthday this year as well as see friends in other countries. DS will need new clothes too. Depending on where he gets into school next year (and if I get the job I'm currently after), we may be paying school fees too - great!
Most of our money goes on rent, groceries & bills. DP and i both have footy memberships as well as we go every week. Any extra money used to go on nights out, cosmetics, waxing, haircuts, shoes, bags and books but now goes on clothes, books and toys for DS
