Yeah I am feeling ok :). Thanks love. But I am just a little worried that I don't feel at all sick. I usually don't get sick properly till 5 weeks. But I haven't even had any little waves of it yet. So it is making me nervous, cos it was the same with the pregnancy I lost at 5.5. Hoping it is just my lucky pregnancy to miss out on ms, perhaps because I am carrying a little boy?? But yeah who knows. I might get and early dating scan if my mind doesn't get rest about it soon.
Welcome special!!! This will be my first homebirth, but 5th baby.
Congrats Bella - I never got any morning sickness for mine so it doesn't always mean something terrible is going on.
Had my midwife appointment yesterday - she said she is really looking forward to my birth and thinks it will go really well. That was a big confidence boost! Plus my chiro said that my pelvis is in perfect alignment now, so just have to work on getting him in a good birthing position.
Dh's birthday today so I have to take the kids down to the shops to get something. I may not survive....
ETA - I forgot! I picked up a tincture yesterday from the chiro place (they have all sorts of people working in the centre, midwives, acupuncture, chiro, reflexology etc etc) and its called a 38 week formula. Contains Raspberry leaf, squaw vine, nettle and vervan. I had to google everything but RL and I'm pretty impressed with what they say they will do, especially the squaw vine! Tastes like death though, so I HATE taking it. Makes me want to vomit. My belly goes all warm afterwards though and I feel quite calm - apparently thats the vervan doing that. So I'll keep taking it but might put some in orange juice. Urgh.
Arimeh- Zoe was very high until about a week before I gave birth. My midwife said consecutive babies don't engage until much later and also gave me the talk about bum in air if waters broke.
And that birth is very possible!! I only had about 5 proper contractions before Zoe was out
Welcome special, look forward to hearing about your homebirth story. I'm in vic with #2 due in September and 1st hb.
Welcome, special! Looking forward to hearing all about your 2nd HB plans. This will be my 2nd HB too. Glad to have some company in January! Are you expecting bub to arrive early or late Jan?
Thanks for the lovely welcome. Yep. Same midwife. I did look into the Homebirth program through Sunshine hospital because money was very tight but it is just too box-ticky and I wouldn't have felt safe. 1 appointment in and all the "big baby" talk was already there. Just had my first appointment with my IM and I immediately felt all comfy and happy.
I have 3 boys, 13, 6 and 4. 13 year old doesn't want to be home for the birth and is taking time to adjust to the whole baby idea. Mr 4 loves the whole thing, watched birth videos and tells everyone he is going to be the first one I kiss the baby. Apparently I get to hug it first since it needs to "smell the boobies"
Hahaha, funny what info they pick up.
I haven't planned much for this birth. Suppose I could get a pool. Work out who will be here, other than Matthew. I'm not an organiser.... Much more a see what happens kind of person.
I'm so excited for those of you having your first homebirths. I just felt like it was special. :)
Welcome Special :D
There was more I was going to put here, but it's all flown out of my head. I'm not even tired, just have brain fog at the moment *sigh*
Looks like my mw for dd2's birth is going to be away for the week leading up to my due date. Not sure what that means for me. :(. I know the thought of going with someone else makes me anxious tho. Anyone else had to deal with that??
Yep. My midwife goes away 2 days before my edd for a week.
It is annoying and means I need I find an alternative for that week. But she told me up front and the option of just not having her at all seemed worse to me, so I'm taking the chance and assuming I go over. Or early. Lol
For me, it's the pregnancy care that matters most to me, since that's when I tend to stress.
Did you go over with your last one Bella? Who was your midwife anyway - someone on the sunshine coast? Mary and I were talking yesterday about another midwife up there that is taking on up to 9 clients a month now (and its only her and a doula) and a few weeks ago she had 4 ladies in labour all at once so she sent some of them to the Nambour Hospital on their own to birth. I'd be bloody cranky if that happened to me I tell ya!!! Glad Mary and her other midwives take on only 4 a month.
If you not at risk of going during that time, I'd probably chance it and go with your midwife.
Yeah I know who that one is, and it is really sad that that is happening. I've already told her it isn't ok, and she assures me it won't keep happening, but it does. She does have other midwives working with her now, but from everything I have heard both her and Mary say, they are pretty bitter rivals. It's not the way that it should be. But I have strong opinions about that me too. One of my closest mates had her and her hubby called me to meet him at the hospital, because she had a big pph due to a vaginal wall tear, involving an artery, and neither mw or doula had gone with her in the ambulance. They stayed back to clean up the blood apparently! Anyway, I don't rate her at all, but she sells well because she is very personable and charming when you meet her. But yeah who knows what happened with those women going to Nambour hosp. It is always hard to know for certain because Chinese whispers are always misleading.
Afm, my Mw was Rachel reed. I really get along well with her, and I think we are friends as well as client/Mw. So it is gonna be hard to replace her. But I am sure Vicki Chan or someone else would help me out, as I know most of the local midwives to some degree or other. I just want Rach tho
Oh and I went 42+2 with my first which was a c/s in the end, and 40+6 with dd2. I suspect I would will my body to wait. She is going to a conference in Prague to speak, which is the 1-5th of may. Not sure if she planned to go see family in England before she came back tho.
I'd go with her. She might make arrangements in her absence anyway for another midwife to take over her clients?
And yes, I gathered Mary and the other midwife didn't have the best history, she told me other stories as well. I think Mary is just proud of the system they have going there (2 midwives attending each birth) and it worries her that when other midwives take on too much work or do things like leaving her doula with a labouring client for 12 hours, and then coming back in and saying oh well this isn't progressing off to hospital - that worries Mary that people will have that impression of all homebirth midwives and can ruin their rep so to speak. And I understand that worry, her business is built on reputation really isn't it.
Oh I understand Mary's concerns. They are shared by pretty much ever mw on the coast. I share the concern too. There has been dangerous stuff done, and it will only take one baby dying...... Cos you are right, they are all judged as a whole.
9 a month seems huge!
To be honest, I am not sure how many my midwife takes on, but it's not her full time job and I think it isn't a huge amount per year.
Yeah 4 is the recommended. Not sure how often it has happened. Certainly not ever month.
But she often doesn't make it to appointments. My friends sister was seeing her and didn't get an appointment from 20-36 weeks, so she changed mw's.......
She never got back to me when I rang her to see if I could reschedule our appointment - it was Mary that rang me back and rescheduled (had first appointments with both of them on the same day) so I went with Mary.
Even if Mary is busy at a birth, I see Josie who is absolutely lovely. They also had a student there yesterday which I really think is awesome that student midwives get a real feel for birth instead of seeing it in a hospital all the time!
oh wow! cricket had her baby!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!
:happyforyou:
yes, yes...I live under a rock and totally missed this exciting news! *off to read Mr Cs birth story now*
Thanks Cass. :) We're doing great over here. It's our anniversary today and DH and I are going to try to have a little bit of a date. Looking forward to that, although it's kind of hard to plan an outing when the only thing that fits are yoga pants.... :P I like to try to look nice if we go out!
I'm excited to share that my beautiful baby boy (currently nameless) was born at home in the lovely, lovely water at 4.46pm this afternoon. He is 4.34kg and breastfeeding like a champion :D
Congratulations sepeta!! Well done you! Enjoy your baby moon!

Congrats, sepata! Looking forward to hearing all about it. Sounds like you're another water birth fan. ;)
Arimeh, the term 'fashionably late' comes to mind. Nothing wrong with slow cooking!
all the cool kids have comfy uterii. (is that the plural of uterus?)
That's what I'd say. Which doesn't really help. ;)
I've seen a couple of mentions of Birth Photographers. I have to say the thought occurred to me because I never got any photos in my other births, but I am worried about too many people there.
With my last birth (my homebirth) I actually got in the shower and was all alone. It wasn't a conscious decision, but boy was it nice.
Just what I need at 38 weeks pregnant - bloody gastro! Had a weird day yesterday, felt sick at my mums after breakfast (I had toast) so I went for a walk on her farm. Then we went to the IL's and I was getting hits to the bladder that would take my legs out from under me, my midwife figured it was from his shoulder because he's still oblique. So I had a sandwich for lunch and then felt like I was going to pass out. That went away and on the drive home I had BH's every 4-5 minutes with a squeezing feeling. So I didn't have anything but a cup of Milo for dinner - and now I'm up at 2am with a burning belly and the runs - gastro! Fabulous.
*sigh*
