    Re: Homebirth General Discussion #18

Not much of a birth story. Guess I could check my text messages, but it took less than 15 mins from, "I think you should come now" to my midwife to delivering her in the shower while DP had the other midwife on speakerphone! I was having trouble resting through my 10 min apart cx for the hour before. And I had started vocalising through them.

Her waters didn't break until her head was born. No tearing, just a couple of minor labial grazes. Lucky I just finished reading Ina May's midwife stuff and tried to guide her head out with my hands as gently as I could, checking for cord as she came.

I'm completely missing the emotion from DD2's birth but in awe of how instinctively it all happened.

The only hold up was the placenta, which still didn't come after two hours, trying the toilet, having a shower, bfing baby. Nothing. I did the blow on the bottle thing and it dropped right out.

Wow, I think every woman should read up on freebirth because it truly is a reality for all of us. With ds the only reason he wasn't freebirth was because my back up midwife was in the next suburb. I also didn't get frequent or long contractions with him. It took a lot more than three pushes though lol.

I haven't heard of the blow on a bottle thing. Placentas are funny things. Mine plopped out with ds when my primary midwife finally arrived. I think the emotional stuff is important for that third stage.

Were you shakey from shock Jen? It's a lot to go through so quickly!!!

I've been contemplating our chances of freebirthing since we moved to the country! All good - the mw's came late in the piece last time, I didn't need the midwife to do anything hands on (she filled the bath!) for DS's FBC birth, so at this stage (28 weeks) I'm preparing for a freebirth scenario if my mw can't make it on time.

    Congratulations The Mrs! Gorgeous photo.

my midwife only made it by 7 mins or something last time. unfortunately, this time won't have my student who only lived 10 mins away and helped out heaps. will prob get mw mobile earlier cos ds birth wasn't very long. I am writing list of phone number s of locals who can help me or take kids if things happen quickly when dh not home.

I haven't heard of blow on bottle thing either. might be handy.

e_p, why did you get mixed reactions? I thought people would be excited by your news.

    Re: Homebirth General Discussion #18

Congrats TheMrs! Love your photo. Bit sad I have no photos of DD3's arrival at all (although indelibly imprinted in my mind).

Hot1, I asked my m/w to come and gave birth within 15 mins. Contractions still only 10 mins apart but I felt the head and freaked. I'd have to live next door if I expect any midwife to make it if I ever have another. She called a closer midwife who arrived about 10 mins after birth. My doula is local and got here about 5 mins afterwards.

Had a bit of a debrief with my m/w at today's visit. I can't believe how good I feel physically but the emotion I had after DD2 isn't there. Bit proud of my ability to handle it all so well though.
