Hi ladies! Hope all of you are well - great to see how busy it's been in here!

I'm so so excited to let you all know that baby is finally here - little boy Caspar Francis, born 8:55pm on Sunday night. He shares a birthday with his daddy!! We are so so in love with him already and loving getting to know each other. Haven't yet had a chance to post in BA's but wanted to post here because I know you were all waiting for news

Bub was born at home - labour was 45 hours from first contractions, two tiny grazes so no stitches needed. Will come back and post more details soon! He hasn't been weighed yet but is 51cm
long, head circ 36cm and we think he weighs about 3.5kg but will check properly today when our IM visits.

    Love to you all xx

Congrats Eutra! Enjoy your baby moon!

Can't wait to read your birth story when you can stop soaking up your little guy and write it out.

AFM, finally have found a birth pool thanks to my lovely HB group. I pick it up this weekend. Just need to order a liner and scoop and I think we're almost done. Had an appt with my second m/w yesterday, all looking good. Showed her around so she knows where everything is as I might not see her again until the birth.

And a lovely BB friend is organising my baby welcoming morning tea. I decided to ask everyone to bring along (or send) a lovely message for me to read in labour or for the baby. We don't need any baby stuff, so that seemed a better idea.

What did everyone do as far as wrapping the baby after birth? Did you use a towel or special blanket? I thought I might ask my Mum to get something for us, since she won't be here for the birth itself.

My lovely DP got me a new video camera for our 12 year anniversary on the weekend. So the new baby will be filmed in HD style now!

Jennifer: how exciting you will get to meet your baby soon. Immediately after we put a towel over Bub and while having skin to skin in bed we still had a towel til after we dressed her then we wrapped her in a blanket.

Congratulations eutra!!! What wonderful news to wake up to today!

Hot1- I am planning to have the birth pool in our bedroom. A, it means I don't have to move far after birth. Or I can birth on the bed. B, I will have more privacy as my support can sit in the lounge when I don't need them. We do have an ensuite too so I can move water on from there. But I have seen hoses move water at home births a far way without any drama. I am also having so privacy screens to increase the feeling that the room is "cave"like for me. So I have been getting sheets from local op shops as I find them. I am going to put them to cordon off the bed and pool and also one in the hallway to block vision if I want to go have a bath b4 the pool is filled, so if I wanna wander around naked between my room and the bathroom without caring.

Congrats Eutra on your baby boy! looking forward to hearing your birth story when you are ready. What a funky name!

I have a few funky wraps that i will use when bub is born. i am going to let DH choose which ones we will use. I figure one or two might get messy but it will wash off, and then we will wrap bub in a clean one.

Jennifer, when are you having your morning tea?

Bella, your set-up sounds good. mmm, might have to think some more and see what my midwife reckons.

    Is Brogeybear around still?

    Congratulations Eutra!

HotI, my birthing pool came with about a kilometer of hose! We used it from the laundry sink to the spare room about 10m away but it would have reached heaps further. You shouldn't need to pump out - put a hose all the way into the water so it is filled, the put your thumb over one end and throw it out the window and it will siphon. My midwife says it is great for the garden . I liked having mine in the spare room because it was set up weeks in advance so the was no mucking around on the day. It was a carpeted room, we had an old sheet under the bath and a couple of towels on the floor where I got in and out. Wasn't that messy anyway.

Jen, I kept bub warm just by keeping her in the water as much as possible and the room was very heated. When I needed to deliver the placenta she was wrapped in a towel and given to DH.

Ash, we are so lucky here in NZ! One of the MG ladies had her second baby the other week and had planned to go to the birth center but the midwife said since all was going well they may as well just stay at home - I doubt that would ever happen in Australia!

My house is tidy too, HotI- I had a midwife appointment today The kids are home now, so it won't last long. Have you had your appt. yet?

Hi to everyone! Special hello to Eutra- I hope you are enjoying your babymoon.

All is well here. I've decided that I am not doing the GD screening test. My midwife agrees. We had our second appt. today. We discussed the issue of children at the birth and the use of synto in 'emergencies', and a whole lot of other preg and non-preg related stuff. I feel very comfortable with her. I love having home visits- she was here for 2 hours.

I didn't have the GD test either Ash. I didn't see the point.

I must remember to book in to see my GP for the synto and Vit K scripts. Eeep - 35 weeks this weekend! Better pick up the birth pool too.

I didn't do the GD screening this time round but I had the monitor from when I had DS and had GD. I did a few readings and they were fine but I strongly suspect now that I did develop it near the end - DD2 was much bigger than the other two and had a lot of chub around her belly (so fat that the belly got stuck on the way out!).

My midwife carried synto with her and they draw it up prior in case it is needed quickly. I had a bleed about an hour after the birth that soaked through all the pads, my dressing gown and soaked the couch but it stopped quickly and I lost almost no blood during the birth so we decided against the synto because it makes after pains worse. I am sure I would have been jabbed automatically in hospital, classed as emergency.
