Is it possible to be induced without having your waters broken?

Is it possible to be induced without having your waters broken?

Natural birth can begin without waters breaking, would hospital policy allow for induction (via syntocin drip) without AROM? Has anyone successfully asked for this to happen?

The hospital where I had Charlotte did not perform an AROM before administering gels. I didn't look further into it, but that is what they went through at the antenatal classes. Waters would only be broken later on if 'needed', but initial induction would be application of the gels and leave you to it.

I don't remember them differentiating between drip and gels though sorry.

Ta. I think it usually goes gels/tape (if you need it), then AROM (break waters), then drip.

I was induced with Peppar with just the gel. I was nearly 2 weeks over though and have a squishy cervix (five kids will do that to ya)

My waters broke naturally with my contractions about 5 hours after I had the gel.

i was induced only with gel. second lot went in at 10.30pm and by 1.00am i was in active labour (waters broke on their own at 12.50am) and DD was born at 8am. But yes you are right, the "route followed" was to be Gels to soften cervix, then AROM, then synto drip....but my DD had other ideas

I have GD and I am going for a VBAC this time. The doctor wants to avoid all forms of hormonal induction and so mentioned that they would try using a balloon to start labour this time if I have to be induced (which I am hoping does not happen). I think if your waters break (or are broken for you) and contractions do not start or do not stay strong, then they have to use the drip so from what I gather, the Ob wants to avoid AROM. We haven't discussed it in a lot of detail yet because I am hoping it all happens spontaneously and I don't need to worry about any of it.

ive been induced with 2 of my kids and the first time i was induced with the drip and they didnt try and break my waters till after 2 hrs due to all that was going on ctx wise and frequency and yet no waters breaking.. as soon as the broke it though i had my son literally 5 min later
my other son my waters where already gone so i cant help with that one...
in my latest experience with dd due to infrequent ctx but some waters breaking not my hind waters they where going to induce me cause my ctx where everywhere and stopping and then starting again.. Thankfully they broke the little waters and my dd came flying out lol
i think they prefer to break them once you are on the drip as it speeds up the ctx and can be very stressful for bubs and you if the bubs isnt breaking through itms?
    GL though

I have had 2 inductions and they were both drip first. With DD they broke my waters later but DS they broke naturally.
